    Does this help?

It surprised me the answer given...basically just to turn the exposed bread so it is resting on a board etc...

I am sure it will be ok to put a loaf into a bag of some kind whilst transporting it to your Mum's...

  • I take my breadmaker bread to work for lunches. To transport it I wrap it in a tea-towel and then put that in one of the cotton fabric shopping bags that you can get instead of plastic bags. It lives in there for about 3 days and seems to survive fine. Definitely not plastic bags as that seems to make it go moldy pretty quickly.

I've got a bread bag I bought on ebay, it's cotton and lined with plastic, and it's brillant to keep bread. It keeps forever, never goes mouldy.. my partner makes bread quite often, but it's soooooo nice that it never lasts more than 5 days!!!
  • We make two loaves each week on Sunday for husbands sandwiches, toast at weekends etc. We let them cool, then slice them up and bag say 4 slices together, then freeze them. That way you can pull a bag out with enough for two rounds of manwiches.....
  • I make 2 loaves a week in my breadmaker, leave them to cool then slice them. I put the sliced loaves in freezer bags and as there is just the two of us put half of the loaf in each bag before putting them in the freezer, so we always have fresh bread. Lovely!

I make four loaves at a time, slice them then put them in freezer bags. Even if I don't freeze them I still keep them in a plastic bag and it stays fresh for a day or two - it's always eaten by then.

I must have a problem with my bread maker then as no sooner has it cooler out of the pan then it seems to be half a loaf! But with OH and two growing boys we do tend to go through it quickly. BM on at least once a day!!!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • I make 2 loaves a week. One organic white milk bread (a favourite!) and one wholemeal loaf. I find that more than does me.
If I defrosted my main freezer I would slice and freeze them an added bonus.
