I know there are a few posts like this, but all seem to be asking for the Fermanagh or way down Co - Down direction. I am from outside Cookstown but thinking anything up to an hour’ s travel after the church ceremony should be okay? We would love a really rustic barn but so far the prices are eye watering. On their website Larchfield estate Barn is £5.5K plus just for the venue!! :-O :-O And Riverdale barn is 3.5K again just for venue. Maybe my price expectations were too low, but I never expected such high prices before you add (I’m guessing) at least £35/ £45 a head for food?? No idea what marquees cost as the price is not on any website - but have a feeling I may be shocked by these also

So we are back to the drawing board and hoping some of you folks might be able to help?. We just don’t want to get into debt for one day, but want something a little bit unusual rather that the normal run of the mill hotel. Any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat, prices are horrendous. Tbh, as with most things in NI, wedding venues in general seem to more expensive here. Have u considered Donegal? Prices in the South seem to be a bit more reasonable. And there's always Breckenhill (near Ballyclare), they were doing quite a good package. Although that might be a bit far?????
  • How many guests are you hoping to have? I don't live that far from you and may know of a few one in particular but I think 60/65 would be max. As regards Larchfield I was told but I don't know how true it is that you have to bring toilet paper for bathrooms. It is a beautiful setting but very expensive,
  • Breckenhill isn't too far and prices are a lot lot more reasonable. I'm maybe being fussy but the only thing is it just looks like a function room inside and then whats the point of having it in a barn then. Although I do think it may be worth taking a look at and maybe I will change my mind.

Cough Potato - Where you thinking? Numbers are not confirmed yet until we know what venue etc.

    Thanks!!

I wud say def go & have a look - places i thought I'd love I hated when I visited them, & places I wasn't too sure about I ended up really liking. We looked at Lusty Beg & it was really lovely - on the website it looks a bit like a marquee, but it's actually drapes that can be taken down if u prefer. Below all those drapes are exposed beans & neutral walls - very barn-style!!!

As you were looking at Larchfield, there are a few others in the vacinity:

Montalto Estate near Ballynahinch - recenlty opened carriage rooms for functions

    Ballyduggan Mill near Downpatrick.

    The Barn at Rowallane (Saintfield)

While some of these palces are exactly barns they are what I would term buildings with character.

Marquees can be very expensive - but some venues will provide them for you and decorate etc.

    These places include
    Blesssingbourne Estate (Fivemile Town)
    Possibly Gosford Castle (Markethill Armagh)

I found a good place to start was look up the list of venues licensed to hold civil cermonies (even though you aren't having a civil wedding - the list can be useful for finding a reception venue - each council should ahve a list published on the website)
