Unfriendly Wedding Venues

Sheesh, you'd think some of them didn't want us to book! I've sent so many emails this weekend to venues around Yorkshire and received a variety of responses. But, I'm overwhelmed with how many ignored my questions and didn't send a personalised email at all. I've crossed them all off the list without even looking at their brochures properly. It doesn't take long to read and reply to an email properly. (eye rolling smiley!)

I agree that a personalised reply would be best BUT these venues probably get many many requests for initial information that come to nothing, if they replied with a personal email to all of them they would probably have to emply more admin staff and so costs rise.
They probably get enough bookings working the way they do so have no need to change, I guess when you make an appointment to view you get the more personal service because at that point you have whittled you choice down from the 50 emails to maybe 5 or 6 to look at.
I think you have just got to consider it as not unfriendly just a buisness practise that makes economic sense.
Sorry you were upset by it. It's because it's your one big day but they may do 100 a year!0 -

That's a pity, as you wouldn't have made the initial enquiry if you weren't interested in something about each place - location, views, gardens, stunning rooms etc.
You may find you miss somewhere that is absolutely perfect, just because they didn't have time on a Monday morning to send a personalised email.0 -
We've experienced the same when we've contacted places by email or phone and have barely bothered looking at their brochures when they have come. If they can't take the time to be friendly and helpful to us when we are considering spending a great deal of money with them, how will they treat our guests and us on the big day of our lives?Halifax Credit Card: [STRIKE]£4915[/STRIKE] NEXT Directory: [STRIKE]£1980[/STRIKE]JD Williams: [STRIKE]£1984[/STRIKE] British Gas: [STRIKE]£394[/STRIKE] First Direct [STRIKE]£2985[/STRIKE]Debt-free for over 2 years now!!! :j0

Hmm, I'm with ognum on this, they must get so many requests they'd have too much work to respond to everyone personally. I collected brochures or looked on websites, then just contacted the ones I really wanted. Most of the answers to the questions were in the brochures or on the website anyway.
I would walk away if they were uninterested after a personal visit though!0 -
I think it must be difficult for venues as there is a balance needed between making brides & grooms feel important and the amount of work required to do so. Some popular venues near me act as yours did Kheeli, they know they'll be fully booked so why waste time chasing prospectives.
I was disappointed with a prospective venue after I visited a wedding fayre at their location.
I enquired as to the possibility of holding our reception there and they lost interest immediately, flatly informing us that we wouldn't be able to hold our reception on a Saturday as Saturdays are reserved for full day weddings ans was made to feel like our reception wasn't as important as those who were getting married in the UK.
Needless to say they were crossed off the list immediately, a shame really as the venue is stunning =/Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -

That makes no sense - what about people who are getting married in a church?!0 -

Exactly this. First impressions count, especially in such a business as this. If they can't get that right then walk away fast.Pants0 -
Half the reason I booked my venue was because the events organiser was lovely. That's the person you're going to have to deal with for the next however many months, so having someone pleasant on their end was important to me.
That said, I wouldn't completely write off a venue until I had spoken to them over the phone at least.0
