    How do you mean?

The ease in which many financial institutes were allowing and actively encouraging people to have these loans and other financial services.

Don't understand what people are worried about. Our future PM keeps saying that he has ended the days of boom and bust and that under his sound guidance the economy is stable (think he implies steadily increasing).

Is this the same guy who can't decide how long an economic cycle is, and when it started and when it finished?

There is also the matter of the dollar being highest just about ever

Actually the dollar is at about the lowest it has been for a long time.

errrm if the dollar is at just over $2 to the pound then obviously thats higher than it was previously at $1.8 to the pound

    Maybe it's because it's worth less? ;)

Because it's worth less. The less something is worth, the "lower" it becomes. Hence shops "lower" prices in the sales.

Is it the absolute level of the debt that is the issue, or the ability to repay the debt that is the issue? Or are you not sure which is the issue?

    The ability to repay!

Which doesnt seem to be there if insolvencies are at their highest rate ever.

i understand the concept of it being worth less - but the fact still remains the dollar is at a higher exchamge rate. The dollar is worth less against the pound, not the other way - you can still get more dollars per pound than before - to me that is higher, not lower

If I can buy something for 50p now, when it used to cost 85p before, then its price has come down.
