JSA/ holdays/sicknote help please

My son has been on JSA and his dad paid for and took him on a weeks skiing trip to Austria for his birthday/Christmas my son told the job centre when he last signed on and was told he could do a rapid restart on his return. He returned today with a badly broken collarbone
He was due to ring up tomorrow to restart his claim but now he cannot obviously do that as he will be unable to be available for work for a short while. I was wondering if he will be able to claim ESA or anything else We will be at the hospital in the morning, should we ask for a sick note?
Thanks for any help
