JSA/ holdays/sicknote help please

My son has been on JSA and his dad paid for and took him on a weeks skiing trip to Austria for his birthday/Christmas my son told the job centre when he last signed on and was told he could do a rapid restart on his return. He returned today with a badly broken collarbone :( He was due to ring up tomorrow to restart his claim but now he cannot obviously do that as he will be unable to be available for work for a short while. I was wondering if he will be able to claim ESA or anything else We will be at the hospital in the morning, should we ask for a sick note?
Thanks for any help
