Fund risk categories

How can I found out, easily, what the risk 'category' is of individual investment funds that I have selected for my personal pension. Specifically I am looking for the 'risk' of the J P Morgan Natural Resouces (A) fund. I have tried Citywire and it does not make the risk obvious. Thanks.

Research and experience and a bit of opinion.
JPM Natural resources is high risk. 8.5 out of 10 on a 1-10 scale. I would refer to it as a rollercoaster fund. Good for a some of your specialist sector side of your portfolio but not a core fund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks, I had a strong feeling it was on the high risk side given the huge growth over the last 5 years (365%). I selected JPM Natural Resources as part of my 'smallish' personal pension and tansfered about £1650 into that fund, as from Monday last week. When I requested the transfer through AEGON Scot Eq I was informed that another fund transfer I made in January from SE 'Mixed balanced cautious' into an Ethical fund, although executed by SE, was not permitted. I was asked where I would like those funds to be invested (about £1600). I selected JPM Natural Resources and this investment was then backdated to early Jan, the fund has risen 25% in value since then. So I am a short term winner!
My pension fund portfolio is definately on the 'high risk' side (I think) at the moment, I am happy to take big risks with this pot of money, it being very much secondary to my main pension and is PR money anyway. I have about 20% invested in JPM Natural Resources. I have seen my fund rise 10% overall since Jan 11, a function of a rising stockmarket to a large degree, but it is pleasing to see. If anyone is interested my funds are broken down as follows:
SE UBS GBL EMG MKTS (A) £1,749.54
PROPERTY (A) £1,615.52
SE FIDELITY EUROPEAN (A) £1,768.35
SE INVESCO PERP INC (A) £3,391.89
JPM NATURAL RESOURCE (A) £3,734.25
SE SCHROD UK MID 250 (A) £3,441.61
SE BGI PACIFIC RIM (A) £1,675.56
Total £17,376.72
Is this a reasonably 'balanced' medium/high risk portfolio? or am I being a bit stupid??0 -
definately a higher risk portfolio. If this is a portfolio to play around with and you have free switches left I would take some profit on JPM Nat and look at some US Tech funds for tech exposure and USD."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Thanks for that, was also thinking about a China fund, if SE do their own or offer an external one. I think I only get one free switch per financial year so would need to find out how much they would charge me.0

Is this a reasonably 'balanced' medium/high risk portfolio?
Yep.The portfolio has 60% in larger cap UK and European shares with the equity income and property funds reducing the overall medium risk level a bit and 40% in natural respoources and emerging market equities (the higher risk bit).
Seems to fit your objectives very well, some quality choices in there..Trying to keep it simple...0
