Hiya all, I have just moved into my own man pad and my sis gave me a small slow cooker to help me fend for myself!
Now I'm not a kitcheny guy and can only cook using recipes (according to little sis, I lack imagination!). My sis also pointed me in the MSE direction and gave me All Recipes w/site to help. I found this recipe (almost just like mum made!) http:// allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/12382/beef-stew-in-the-slow-cooker.aspx but when my mum makes it (not in slow cooker) she adds sausages :T so fellow (and lady) MSE'ers my questions are : when would I add the sausages and do I just bung them in raw?

If I were adding sausages to that recipe, I'd brown them in the frying pan after doing the onions & mushrooms, let them sit for a while (to drain a bit of the fat off) while I sorted the rest of the ingredients, then chuck them in the slow cooker with the beef. When I do a sausage casserole/stew I tend to wait until it's all done, take the sausages out and slice them up, then put them back in and mix it up before serving. I don't like leaving them whole, it's much more awkward to eat!Kate.0

You could chop them up first (after browning) but personally I find it's much easier when they're thoroughly cooked, they go lovely and soft and are really quick to chop up.Kate.0
