Can anyone recommend a good Electro Acoustic Guitar?

Options
I am looking for a decent Electro Acoustic guitar but there are millions and I don't know which one to go for? I don't want one that has nylon strings or strings that are far apart from eachother or one of those smaller guitars, nor do I want a beginners guitar. One thats not too expensive (maybe up too £90, ideally up too £70) but one that sounds good and can be connected to an Amp.

Anyone any recommendations for any links online?

Would most appreciate it if anyone has any links or can help.

Around that price they tend to be poor quality. You very much get what you pay for.

Eastwood has a fairly reasonable reputation, I can't post links but look on eBay for Eastwood-LA125EQ which is £70.

A budget Ovation will be so much better but way above your price point. Visit reidys.com and search for Ovation Applause.

Stagg, Rocket and Gear4Music have cheap electro acoustics. See them at amazon.co.uk. There are others at Amazon but steer clear of Martin Smith, Lindo and unbranded models.

Some of these guitars can be seen and heard online on YouTube, just key in the model name & number of the actual guitar you're interested in.

    Hope this helps.
  • Thanks so much for your help.

I have narrowed it down to these two.

    EASTWOOD LA125EQ

    and this one

Dreadnought Electro Acoustic Guitar The DN-10E-NT Dreadnought Electro Acoustic Guitar by Gear4music

Which do you think would be the better?

I was also looking for an easy to use guitar tuner for either of these which would attach or clip onto the guitar, could you recommend one also?

Thanks so much again for your help. Most appreciated.
  • Personally, I think the Gear4Music dreadnought will be dreadful.

The Eastwood looks passable. Most budget acoustic/electro acoustic guitars have fingerboards where the fretboard is too dry and the action too high. The sound can be scratchy but it can adjusted with on-board EQ and whatever amp it's going through.

The guitar's only £69.99 - not a financial disaster if it doesn't turn out that good.

Amazon has a tuner (with excellent reviews from exisiting owners), look up Tiger Chromatic Guitar Tuner.

Can I point out that what matters less than the brand, is where you buy it from?

Guitars need setting-up to give their best and they are quite sensitive instruments sometimes badly affected by travel. A well set-up cheaper guitar can be easier to play and sound better than a badly set-up more expensive one.

You are better off going to a music shop and looking at guitars that have been checked and adjusted before being hung on the wall, than by buying one in a box via mail order.

If the OP wants a certain string spacing, it'll be difficult to establish this before the guitar has been paid for.

Go to a decent music shop and try some out.
