What gift could I make for my host?

Options
I'm struggling for ideas here!

I am going to visit a friend for a few days & would like to take a gift or two, partly to say 'thank you for having me'. I already have some home baked cookies on the list, but could do with another idea or two which won't cost a great deal.

Both my friend and I have children, but whereas my husband and I are watching the pennies all the time, my friend and her family are much more comfortable and I don't want to come across as a cheap-skate.

All ideas welcome!

    Some handmade chocolates or fudge?

Or some homemade marmalade or chutney?

I often bring homemade bread as a gift as so few people bake their own, so it is a bit more of a novelty than a cake.

just done a mini food hamper for my son to take as he is staying with a friend and his parents, did homemade cookies, homemade fudge, homemade truffles, peppermint bark (they loved that used the cheap white chocolate from lidl tasted lovely) red onion chutney, wrapped a box with gift wrap and then wrapped that with cellophane it looked very nice and cost very little.

    how crafty are you?

    can you sew, knit, crochet?
  • Thanks for those replies. Time was tight in the end, so I went with the cookies & also planted up some daffs from the garden in a nice plant pot I had already. I'll definitely be using some of your other ideas in the future!

    Thanks :)
  • Home-made lemon curd is relatively easy to make and is quite delicious. It keeps in the fridge for up to 3 weeks and can even be frozen.I've yet to meet someone who has not loved it!

If you're interested,I can give you the recipe.

I agree, home made lemon curd is completely different from the artificial stuff in the shops and gorgeous on homemade scones.

Agree. I'd make fudge or lemon curd.

I made some really cute teacup candles at Christmas. Dead easy. Just need some tea light candles, melted down and I got a length of wick really cheap and harity shop teacups. I had some luggage tags left over from our wedding, so wrote 'Hand made with love' went down well

What a lovely idea and I bet it was appreciated I love anything that has been made for me personally as I think its so much more special than just buying something from a shop.
My sis-in-law always makes me a small 'baked bean tin' Christmas cake, as I am the only one in my family who eats Christmas cake and I am always so chuffed when I get it as I know she has put herself out to make it for me and me alone
Well done on a brilliant idea
