Failure notices for emails I haven't sent

Hi

I am getting mailer daemon failure notices for emails I haven't sent. I have run a full scan for viruses and a full scan for malware but nothing has shown up. I'm not very technically minded and this is as much as i know how to do. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Nothing you can do about it, you are a victim of what's called a Joe Job.

Basically, it's trivial to put a fake name or email address as the sender when sending email, so spammers pick one at random and start sending them. When the bounces happen they get sent off to some poor sod whose email address was used, rather than clogging up the email server of the spammer themselves.

It is highly unlikely that these spams came from your machine.

Think of it like if you wrote a letter by hand, but instead of your own name and address in the top right corner, you put that of the bloke in the next street who you dislike. He gets the flak for whatever you wrote.
