Hi guys, a couple of quick questions

Options
hello everyone, firstly, thank you for this great forum, i have been a bit lazy really and only ever used this site to find some good competitions and useful money saving tips, i thought it about time i give something back!

i have a number of twitter followers that are always Retweeting a million competitions, so i will try to start posting some of the good ones, most are the old "RT and follow" comps so pretty simple

also i have a question, i have a website and i run competitions for it, i made sure to check the posting rules before i posted and saw that you cannot advertise your own competitions, i understand that this might cut down on spam and people getting free advertisements etc

but whats to stop me or anyone from posting the competition and just not saying its anything to do with them? (i probably should have just shut up and not said anything lol)

but surely if someone has proved they are trustable, and not just spamming ad's, they can post it?, i would rather do everything by the book rather than pm'ing another member to post my competition

i have probably just shot myself in the foot and every competition post i make will now make people think its my site or something lol so i should just shut up my ramblings now hehe

have a great weekend everyone, and may the luck gods be smiling upon you

and a big thank you to those who posts lots of competitions

Jon

    Martin says

"9. No Advertising Of Own Websites. This site is free from advertising. Posts on any board considered to be advertising goods, services and/or companies will be removed. This includes the posting of a competition from your own site or from a site that you are employed by. We also do not allow advertising via PM. Examples of this can include anything from a specific sales post or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any advertising of any description no matter how honourable the intention."

MoneySavingExpert.com is a free site - you cannot pay to buy space - one of the reasons why so many people use it! Equally you are not allowed to advertise any goods, services and/or companies anywhere on the forum, or through private messages (PMs), no matter how honourable the intention.

'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved in (whether you’re selling something or not), or to your eBay or other auction sales."

At first glance it probably seems daft that a competition website wouldn't welcome a competition post from someone legitimate, as you clearly are, as you are bothering to open up a debate on it. But I'm sure the 'no self-promo' thing is because if we allowed it for the few genuine ones, how would we then justify blocking the rest. What we know for sure is that we don't want the forum/site overrun by spam and ads. So in my humbles it's worth missing out of a few good ones, to protect us from the rest.

Besides, which, it could well be that your comps will get discovered and posted by someone else here. We have some fabulous comp scouts on this forum. I'm sure one of them will stumble on your site at some point.

And also, welcome to the forum :D
