How far back can the CSA collect arrears? _UPDATE

I am pleased that you have had a satisfactory resolution to this, I know from personal experience how devastating it can be suddenly receive a letter from csa stating that a huge amount of arrears are owed, the worry and fear is impossible to describe. In our case it took 5 months to prove that a debt of almost 17000 was incorrect. To be fair to csa it wasn't their fault, it was the result of benefit fraud by the ex at a time when they were still living as a couple, so the suggestion of a debt for that period was a complete bolt from the blue. The thing that seemed incomprehensible was that csa had an open and totally compliant case since 2002 yet they had never mentioned the previous 'debt'. They had even repayed an over payment of several hundred pounds at one point. When they finally wrote demanding payment of the debt it was about 15 years old and it was almost impossible to find evidence to disprove the debt. I would tell anyone in a similar situation not to give up, it took us 5 months but with help we proved that the debt was not owed.0

With all due respect prelude, they have ALL the relevant information on US but are choosing to believe the pwc. Honestly, they do seem to 'interpret' the facts they have, in their own way. Anyone with any common sense could see that the pwc would not let a case lie dormant for 8 years and not mention to the CSA that she wasn't getting money from the nrp!!We must be an easy target !!I am completely sure we have fulfilled all the responsibilities for the children going back to the start of the case. No way has my husband ever shirked his responsibilities.I'm sure given time we will get it sorted ,its putting a lot of stress on us,but in the mean time we have to try and live on what we've got left.0

My dealings with the CSA have been total nightmares, in 2000/1 they started taking extortionate amounts from my wages and left me with little to survive, to add insult to injury recently my ex told me she wasn't getting any other than standard allowance from them, I assume the mother of my other child received the same std allowance (£80 pw per child seemed to have gone AWOL, !!!). I now fear they will be on my case again any time soon as sickness benefit ending and back to jsa/esa grrrr0

There is no 'standard' CSA, and if it was, im sure it wouldnt be £80 per week, per child!
If your on JSA you will pay a flat rate of £5 per week. When you start employment you will then be reassessed.
Ae you on CSA1 or CSA2?0
