Photographer - how many hours

An alternative is to see if the venue can put some food in the bar area for the photographer to eat. I've had this a few times and I must admit I prefer it. It gives me chance for a proper break and time to back up all the photos I've taken to date.

It is a nice gesture which i expect will be appreciated by most but I haven't heard of any insisting.

I know quite a few who have it written in their contract, bit cheeky if you ask me ;)
  • I agree. It seems too cheeky to me. Plus I find making polite small talk with essentially strangers quite difficult after a while. I remember one time I was sat at a table where most people didn't know each other at all and then there was a HUGE delay between main course & dessert. Awkward..........

Sorry to highjack your thread but just a side question - should we be feeding the photographer? In other words, when the headcount is done for the meal, should the photographer be included?

For me it's something that I discuss individually with the couple for each wedding. Some will offer straight away and that's fine but otherwise it does depend.
For example, I've been to a few that were at 'country house' style venues in the middle of nowhere and since there wasn't really anywhere else nearby to pop out to for food and since I can often be working a 10-12 hours day then I'd mention I would need 'fed' but am happy to do bar snacks etc if something is available at the venue.
Otherwise can pop out for an hour for a short break and to grab something. This can need to be timed sometimes though depending on when speeches etc are being done - eg if the speeches are at the end of the meal then it can be a bit of a rush to get back to make sure you catch them so may not be worth going 'out'.
