They aren't - they are reversible but you only get one duvet cover.

Thanks OP- I needed a single duvet cover and have purchased the lilac. Currently have a single duvet rolling around in a double!

Hi fiscalfreckles, are you sure? because that's what I thought first as well but when you look at the picture the underside of the one in the big picture shows a white back?

True, and I havent actually received one yet, but from the description:
