Becoming Employed after being Self Employed...

Hi,
I am planning on starting my new job the second week of April, It is with an employer that I previously worked for back in April - August 2010, since December 2010 I have been self employed, working from home and I am hoping to continue this on a part time basis when I start back at my old position.
The place where I am going to work are quite strict on refrences as the pay that I will be offered will be based on the experience that I have, the problem I have though is that with me being self employed I will have no references to cover this period of time. I do however have a contract from the company I do work on behalf of which is dated December 2010 stating that I am a self employed agent and also I could show print offs from my bank showing I have been paid from them.
What is a companys take on Self employment? Do they normally just take your word on the fact that you have been Self employed?
Any words of advice would be much appreciated...

I am self-employed and have been for many years. But, I did return to work as an employed person as for around a year, I only had one client and HMRC rules are that if you only work for one person, you can be classed as employed. Unless you're a contractor (which I am now)
You mention you are beginning a new job. Therefore, I am assuming you have already had an interview? Surely, then you explained you were self-employed? If you have a reference for the period of time as an agent, then surely this covers that period of self employment?0 -
If the company's pay structure is based on how much experience you have, then I'd be seeing if you can get references from people you've worked for in any capacity who will confirm what your experience is, whether you knew them as employed or self-employed, but there's no universal 'take' on this! Each company will approach it differently.Signature removed for peace of mind0
