Legal Fees Incurred to Secure my Fees

I used to freelance for a very large public body.

They would not pay me fees which I felt certain I was due and so I felt forced to consult a firm of solicitors.

This was a year ago now.

After unanswered and unco-operative letters they finally informed me I WAS due fees and they aplogised for the delay and paid me.

They have informed my solicitor they will not be paying my legal fees.

What should I do next please?

Thanks

  • I'd write them a letter outlining the situation and why you incurred the legal fees as a result of their actions and ask them to pay it.

You could also ask your solicitor what they think.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • It would have been far cheaper, and much quicker, to have taken then to the small claims court, with no need for solicitors.

Personally I think you're on to a loser here....it was your choice to go to the solicitors so I think you have to absorb the cost

  • I didn't really know about the small claims court and when I was made aware of it I thought it would even more expense.

However I then found out it's not expensive.

I had word today actually they will pay my legal expenses so I am delighted.

Many thanks to you both for your advice.
