I agree with the last post. The manager is sorting the rota. They are getting cover for your unexpected absence. Sensibly they put word put asking if anyone will help? Someone helps and then when you are back you help in return. Sounds dead sensible to me!

If you were told that you can't have sick pay but had to make up your daytime sick absence when you were better that would be different.

If there were no other way then I guess the manager may do it but the manager can't do every absence cover. That would be a poor manager. Their job is to manage. By finding a solution that's what they have done. Sharing out the unpopular lates to two a month each seems fair to me.

can we try a worked example.

two of you work 4 shifts a week.

If one of you is sick you get full sick pay and the other covers for no pay just TOIL.

On return the one off sick cover the TOIL shift for full pay and does the rest of their normal shift.

So the one that went sick get paid for 5 shifts and the one that did not gets paid 4 shifts.

That isn't how the OP says it works.-

Twice a month one person has to come back into work for an extra 2 hours, but then comes in 2 hours late the following day.

So the pay isn't effected. But the person doing the extra hours at night, may miss time with his children to do it.

Therefore it would be nice for the OP to do this persons late night so he didn't miss 2 evenings with his family.

OP you are not being penalised for being off sick. You are simply being rota'd to do your normal late two hours on a different day, and getting back those two hours the next day in toil.

When did you start working for this company? (this is relevant as it potentially affects your job security).
