Emails you use

Hello,

Just wanted to ask people if you think using certain accounts such as hotmail, yahoo, googlemail etc affects you winning competitions?

I use a hotmail account and have won a few but I do wonder if emails matter.....

Comments

  • Can I ask why you think it would affect it?

I don't see how it would unless you had a really offensive email address. That may have an effect on some comps.
  • I just ask because I use a hotmail account and I didn't think some companies were keen on them.

I haven't an offensive name, I just know with some sites you can't sign up using certain email accounts.

It's quite funny after reading and replying to your thread I came across a comp who didn't accept hotmail email addresses.

    I wonder why?

i dont think it changes your chances of winning, i set up a hotmail account specifically for comps, that way all the spam goes into one email lol

I think some comp hosts refuse addresses like Hotmail because as they're a 'disposable' email a lot a spammers tend to use them. That being said some of those comp hosts have absolutely no protection against mass and auto emailing (no captchas or anything) so that their 'type email here' box gets sweeped by a spamming bot/macro/(like I know what I'm talking about!) that instead of installing spam prevention widgets on their comps, they'd rather blanket ban the entire webmail domain.

Each to their own I guess...
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

I did wonder this, I've entered a few comps on facebook using my hotmail address and it has come up 'email address not valid' but will accept my gmail one
  • I've always used Hotmail and never had a problem.
