Tax claim and P60

For the tax year 06-07 I have worked out from my pay slips I have overpaid around £100 because of being on the wrong tax code for a few weeks. I wrote a letter to my tax office around the 5th of April asking them to review my tax for the tax year 06-07 and it has been a month since, so I phoned the tax office to find out what was happening, they said that I need to send them a P60 to claim back the tax.

I have claimed back tax lots of times over the years and have never had to send a P60. Not to mention I looked through my files and I haven't even had a P60 in the last 5 years! I am going to find out from my employer if/when I am getting the P60, but still are the tax office fobbing me off?

The tax office will probably not have received your 2006-2007 pay and tax details from your employer yet, they have asked for your P60 to speed your refund up. This is standard practice and they are not fobbing you off.

Your employer at the end of a tax year is required to give you a P60 by the end of May and they also have to return a P14 to the Revenue by 19th May. If you haven't received them it's up to you to raise the issue with your employer.

    Thanks for the replies :)

It is probably me being inpatient I suppose (although I have been waiting 5 months :p) so I will query the P60 with my employer and then take it from there. At least its only £100 so I don't miss it all that much.
