You will need to look at the terms and conditions of your job. If there is a clause in there about bankruptcy then that would be a problem. However while in some jobs bankruptcy is a no no, and IVA or a DMP (debt managment plan) may be ok.

If things are very grim, then I would suggest two things

    1) pop a statement of affairs up on here (see southernscousers sticky at the top of the forum), and we may be able to spot some cut backs to make debt repayment easier

    2) talk to CCCS or Payplan. These are debt management charities who give impartial advice for FREE. They will be able to advise you of the best way forward.

    best of luck

Most jobs aren't affected. It is usually a problem if you work in financial services or if you are a director.

I suggest you call your union helpline if you are a member of one.

    Good luck.

It might be better to ask on the Bankruptcy board.

Or if you are feeling brave, phone your HR department and ask.

You don't have to give your name, just say that you are employed as a social worker and prefer not to give your name and would like to know if bankruptcy would affect your career...

    Good luck

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

I know a couple of social workers who work for the local authority and have been bankrupt - it didn't present a problem wih their employment. May be different from authority to authority, but I doubt it.

    Welcome to the BR board

I`m 99% sure that your employment will be unaffected as a social worker working for the local authority. My OH teaches for the llA and has hed no mention of it.

If you wish to clarify anything, I suggest you give HR a call anonymously.

Any other Q`s, ask away as that`s what we`re here for.

I did this and would strongly advise it from the POV of putting your mind at rest. You can have all the folks in the world telling you that it should be ok but until you hear it from your employer it doesn't relieve the tension at all.

On anonymous call and you will know either way. Deep breath, calm and then do it!!! Only took me 2 weeks to get the guts up :rotfl:  The Councils advice in this area was that to protect myself I could not handle any money nor could I have control over a budget until I was discharged.

    focus,

I think you've had all the answers and suggestions you need but my situation is quite bizarre. I work in Finance and told my employers the facts immediately. There was some consultation, I had to prepare a summary report of the events leading up to bky, how this affected myself and my family and whether I thought it would affect my ability to do my job.

Absolutely no problems at all, I still authorise petty cash, purchase invoices, and sign cheques.
