Electrician's Quote for Kitchen

Please excuse the mistake as I already posted this on another part of the forum not realising there was a specific one for quotes.

We are knocking our kitchen and dining room into one and have been given a quote by the builders electrician. Alarm bells rang when he said he could not provide us with his quote directly but through the builder. The quote is below.


7 twin socket outlets
4 switched fused spurs with remote outlets for appliances(fridge/freezer, washing machine, cooker hood and dishwasher)
2 30amp cooker circuits
9 KSRFRD200 dimmable LED downlights with switch in the kitchen area
2 KSFRD200 dimmable LED downlights with switch over peninsula
8 KSFRD200 dimmable Led downlights switched in 2 banks with dimmer switches in dining area.
Provision for plinth lighting with switch
1 tv point
Not Included in Quote - the cost of supplying the plinth lighting
All accessories will be MK Logic plus white plastic and will be flush mounted
All circuits will be wired back to the existing consumer unit
All work will conform to the latest edition BS7671 (The IEE Wiring Regulations) and will be tested and certified accordingly. Also, due to the nature of the work, building control will be informed, and they will issue the client with a certificate of conformance. £2420.00

Missing from this list is the under cupboard lighting and he said the whole kitchen/dining room would need rewiring which isn't mentioned.

Does it still look too expensive? We have got expensive LEDS and sockets so I'm guessing the parts would come to quite a lot.

I'll allow £35 per item (standard items) and £45 for a LED fire rated spot.
I have added 4 items for light switches and one for plinth light outlet

So
24 @ £35 =£ 840.00
19 @ £45 =£ 855.00
TOTAL = £ 1695.00

I do it on a fixed price per item (including materials and labour), that way the client knows where they stand for additions etc

Thank you for your reply. The price we have been quoted is not including VAT. Does the 1695 you suggested include VAT?

Yes and no

I do not trade enough to be above the VAT threshold, so I am not VAT registered.
Other electricians are- be aware of any company that is VAT registered and offers to 'knock off the VAT'

bear in mind you are having expensive all in one LED fittings there. roughly £35 each at cost x 19 = £665 on its own plus fitting. you could opt for normal fire rated downlighters with replaceable dimmable (if neccessary) LED lamps at around £15 each at cost. straight away a saving of £380 (more if you don't need the lamps to be dimmable).

Price will also depend a lot on where you are. The Bald One's prices would almost be double down here in that London...

Mind you, you'd have to put up with us Londoners - enough drive you back home!!
