PPI claimback with Halifax, having trouble!

Hi all

Another PPI question I know!...

Took my first loan out with Halifax a few years ago now having only recently paid odd the PPI. The lady sold me PPI during the meeting saying that my APR on the loan would be lower and basically an overall better deal as it looks more responsible on the application. She also said that I can only apply once for the loan as it would look bad on my credit score if I tried and failed many times. I got the loan and didn't really look back until this whole PPI scam kicked off. I don't think I got sold it fairly and rung Halifax, told them the story, they saw my previous loan and PPI payments when looking back at my account history and they said they would get back to me. 3 weeks later I got a letter from them saying I never had PPI and the case is closed. I was furious and sent them emails and still no response....this was a few months ago now.

I'm being stonewalled by this bank and am not sure what to do now. I'm not great at confrontation and don't particularly want to go into my local branch and kick off. I don't have copies of the paperwork for the loan anymore and am half tempted to let a claims management company take it on, just to spite Halifax.

Any advice??

Cheers, Owen

    Why are you sending emails?

Put everything in writing, follow their complaints procedure and if that is not satisfied then take it to the FOS.

Are you absolutely sure you had PPI? A huge number of claims for PPI fail because it never existind in the first place. If you're sure, did you have more than one loan with them and you've referenced the wrong one?

That would be pointless. It would only spite you, not Halifax, and a second claim cannot be put in for the same PPI in any case. Though no doubt the claims management company would still want a few quid from you.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure what I would have done without that!

Why would I claim for PPI I never had? I was paying £25 a month for it separate to my loan. Fair point about the CMC though.

    I'm not saying you are.

But some people think they had it when they didn't.
Some people don't know what it is and just try a claim anyway.
Some people are told to claim by CMCs without know if they had it.
Some people just try it on in the hope of free cash.

I know of one lender where 1 in 3 claimants had no PPI at all.
  • My DH informed me that he had PPI on some finance deal a few years appeared to be definatly missold according to his information I did all the paperwork etc and chased up the company who sold it to another company etc only to be informed 6 months later that my DH never took out PPI, a waste of time however not being put off Im now after DH bank. .

Halifax loans didn't have freestanding PPI.

If you were paying £25 for something on a different direct debit it wasn't PPI as part of the loan agreement.
