I'll just chalk it up to experience - I've eaten the evidence!
That doesn't usually matter. You can just take the packaging back to the store and complain and they will usually offer a refund. Of course you couldn't do it with your entire grocery basket but the odd item here and there is no problem.

  • Corn fed chicken from the supermarket are not a patch on the flavour of the ones from westin gourmet.....yes they are twice the price but if you stretch it over 3/4 meals it doesn't work out too bad.

I'm glad you can afford £15 for a small 1.2kg bird or £12.50 a kilo - closer to three times the price of Sainsbury not including delivery - but plenty of us already do stretch meat! :p There is another £3.75 delivery unless you can afford to spend £75 on their pricey meat. It doesn't even seem to be certified free range or organic, imperfect as those standards are.

I looked at Westin Gourmet but as Fire Fox points out, as it's not certified organic/RSPCA Freedom Food/Label Rouge you're paying based on how good they think they are. At least with Donald Russell (meat) their business is a Royal warrant holder to the Queen.
  • I've just started ordering from Westin Gourmet and I have to say I'm impressed.

I've had some truly delicious beef steak mince, currently bog2f with code, great tasting pork loin, some huge pork and leek sausages, plus a corn fed chicken which came up as a 'special' at checkout for only £5 for a whole one. I spent about £25 inc delivery and the quality, freshness and delivery was spot on.

We had the chicken for tea tonight - utterly mouthwateringly tender and buttery, with loads and loads on a 1.5kg bird. And the wishbone and wings were intact which I always think is a good sign.

Much better quality and flavour than supermarket meat we've had of late, so I'm pleased.
  • I love corn fed chicken, much better than the standard chicken. I think it has a much sweeter taste to it.
    I hate migraines.
  • I can't notice any difference between organic, corn fed or free range chickens in the taste of the meat. I have however found that organic birds make vastly better stock (tastier and with more gelatin) which tells me that they have been allowed to move around and fed properly so that they grow with good bones and joints. You have to decide whether it is worth paying more for good stock and presumably a better quality of life for the bird.

I baste repeatedly. I rub a little oil, garlic, salt and pepper all over the chicken, then roast in an open casserole dish. Throw some root vegetables in the dish with the chicken halfway through to soak up some of the chicken fat. Mmm but it only stays moist if its basted. I love a real crunchy skin.
  • Westin Gourmet appear to offer a price match, if they honour it then it shouldn't work out excessively expensive as many of the items on offer are not unique & can be found cheaper elsewhere. Can't see any details on how you go about claiming on their price guarantee though.

We are so confident that our gourmet meats are the lowest priced (per KG) in the industry that we will guarantee to refund you the difference should you find our meaty cuts available anywhere else at a cheaper price!
