Home grocery deliveries

first post in this corner of the forum, so i hope it's the right place...
i am thinking of starting to do my grocery shopping online and getting it delivered to try and save some pennies. as many i'm sure, we tend to buy lots of unnecessary items when we wander around a store aimlessly - even when we have a list!
we moved to a more rural area last year and now have a 10 minute drive to our local store - Morrisons. before that we used Tesco regularly and i have a Tesco card. i also have a Nectar card.
what i'd like to know is if anyone has any recommendations for the best/cheapest home delivery supermarket, preferably one with a points system or one that i can get extra from through a cashback site?
we have just started to get our vegetables and milk delivered by Abel & Cole (a slight extravagance, but one that we'd like to keep unless a supermarket is HUGELY cheaper).
any suggestions gratefully received!

Tesco have really hiked their prices lately, the points system doesn't make up for the scalping. Have you tried Mysupermarket for comparisons on your shopping? Up until recently I wasn't using the same supermarket each time so I could take advantage of the best offers/ products but am reverting to Asda now Tesco have bumped their prices.
If you are in a rural area do you not have any local vegetable box schemes or farm shops that are cheaper than Abel and Cole? Have you considered a points/ cashback credit card that you pay off in full every month?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I used Tesco for a long time. Just gone over to Asda and I am very impressed. It's cheaper and the fruit and veg is stop spec including their value range.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

You won't overspend in shop if you make a list (like you would if you were doing it on line) and stick to it, ignoring the siren songs of smoked salmon and grouse eggs.
You could also avail yourself of yellow sticker goods - but if you do that, then you do have to be flexible about what you're cooking that evening.0 -

i haven't tried Mysupermarket, no, but i will now, thanks! there aren't any veggie schemes near me, and the farm shops are lovely but way too pricey. i use them for 'treats'. i do have a cashback credit card already (due around £130 this year - woop!) i'm thinking of using it to order online and get more that way too. i might see if there's an Asda near us that delivers then.Blackpool_Saver wrote: »I used Tesco for a long time. i used to use Tesco all the time (it was the nearest store) but haven't recently due to the move. sad to hear it's getting pricier. You won't overspend in shop if you make a list (like you would if you were doing it on line) and stick to it, ignoring the siren songs of smoked salmon and grouse eggs.

believe me, i do a list every time and i rarely come away with just its contents! especially with the husband there sneaking in chocolate bars and DVDs  i think seeing the total add up online might help as i can take advantage of my slight OCD and try rounding it down/trimming off the fat to get nice even numbers
and i am already a bit of a bugg3r for the oops section, and regularly end up eating some quite odd concoctions
well thanks for those tips. looks like i need to see where my nearest Asda is then!Mortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0 -

Just get some bags for life (plastic coated flat bottom type are so much nicer to use than carriers) and use a trolley. Or think of the exercise you are getting. :cool:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Ocado are good, I save a fortune not going to Tesco (and agree no husband or 4yr old to add items is a plus!)

My Pa used to sneak stuff into the trolley, especially in France. Maman would turn round and find half a trolleyful of wine.:D
I think shopping online just saves so much hassle.0 -

oh man...bags for life are taking over our cupboards! we use them for everything now as we have so many....kindling bag...coal bag....recycling....etc etc we even made one into a hanging tomato planter once (the hessian Tesco ones, take out the plastic liner and poke holes through) - worked really well actually!lil.smartie wrote: »Ocado are good, I save a fortune not going to Tesco (and agree no husband or 4yr old to add items is a plus!)
