  • The sky bill is internet and phone too. Is freesat internet?

No, not internet, but you can get internet and phone elsewhere, for a hell of a lot less.

Wow you could be me! I am so disorganised it makes it hard to sort things out. And I have half a house full of stuff to go on ebay......
It is hard working and running a house. We had lots of casseroles as I could throw them in the slow cooker in the morning and forget about it until I got home later.
I have heard some people have a monthly shopping budget and a jar of cash which is the amount worked out to buy bread, milk, fresh fruit and veg in between shops. If you know the cash there is limited it stops you spending so freely.
As a PP said making sandwiches in bulk is a great time saver. We used to have a conveyor belt of somebody buttering, somebody filling and somebody cutting and wrapping sarnies. They went into the freezer and we'd grab one in the morning. They were defrosted by lunchtime.
Only downside for me was that ox tongue and ham looked the same frozen and it was devastating to find out I had ox tongue for lunch :-(
  • Looks like you're doing really well! Sometimes you just need to say things out loud (or virtually out loud on a forum ;)) to know what to do.

Have you tried any of the spending challenges? I've only recently signed uo and find them really motivational. There's one where the challenge is to commit to how many days in the month you won't spend anything, and a weekly spending challenge - pledge how much you plan to spend and report back on how it went.

I've tried to post the links to these - not very technical though so not sure how successful that will be.... :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Thank you James that's very helpful. The phone needs charging but once that's done I will phone up.

My electronic cigarettes have arrived and I haven't had a normal cigarette since this morning.

Not much more to report. I've spent the morning making soup and rolls for my Sister to come over for lunch. Normally I would have gone to the shop and bought stuff for lunch or we would have gone out. This would be better than going out every week but she's moving offices in a month and will no longer be working a couple of miles away. I'll be driving 20 miles or so to meet for lunch from then on. If I can time it when ds2 is at after school club I can do the food shopping too and save the delivery charges.

    Thought i'd update a bit.

I spent all of Sunday morning and some of the afternoon making things for packed lunches. The pasties I spent hours making completely failed and the cake was all wrong . Ds2's Dad saw what I was doing and asked why so I moaned that I was trying to save money by making stuff for packed lunches because Ds2 won't eat bread. So he said he'll up his maintenance and pay for his packed lunches as well.:j

It was the weekend for Dad's because after almost 2 years of Ds1's dad not paying maintenance he's got a job and has started paying again. :j Also he's going to start giving Ds1 pocket money too. :j This means I will save another £20 a month on pocket money plus hopefully get another £80 a month maintenance. I'm not getting too excited about this yet because where I know Ds2's dad won't let me down over money Ds1's dad has a terrible track record. I'm sure he starts with good intentions but it doesn't always last long. I won't be depending on this money that's for sure.

I've been putting washing out on the line and have only spent a little bit this weekend on milk, paracetamols and a bottle of water for Ds1 to take to school.

I also sold something on ebay yesterday for £20 and once I've taken off the fees that will be going into my savings account towards Ds1's Birthday next month.

I need to reshuffle my SOA a bit now to take things into account.
