Broken down van at work

OK - let's put this into context:
Breakdowns happen - even new vehicles can have problems.
Winter conditions create traffic delays and high demand for recovery services... lot's more flat batteries, collisions, ending up in ditches etc.
If you drive for a living - as in a 'professional' driver- then you should know to take necessary precautions... warm spare clothing, bottle of water, couple of bars of chocolate, shovel, torch, phone charger etc - basically, because you can have a problem even on a short trip.
I think you should be paid for the time you spent over your normal hours for that day and for any out of pocket expenses... that's all.
Plus you need to remember that any road trip can involve a problem - that is life and part of being a grown-up is being prepared.:hello:0 -
I drive for a living too and have done for the last 2.5 years. In that time the van has broken down once (alternator) and got a puncture once on the M6.
When the alternator stopped working it meant I could'nt start the van, it was on a customer's driveway and in the middle of the winter. Luckily the customer said wait in the house and they even gave me a cup of tea. I was lucky. I would'nt have expected anything off my company to compensate me though. Our vans do around 1,500 miles a week, they will break down from time to time.
Two years later I happened to deliver to the same customer again and made sure I thanked her again. It's just bad luck mate, if you had been somewhere like in a town you could have walked to somewhere warm and waited but you could'nt0 -
