I have some Optical Retailing experience and just thought I would mention that legally if you have a Sight Test the Optician has to give you a copy of your prescription. If you have a Sight Test, as the patient, you then own the presecription. They are being reluctant because they don't want you to take it elsewhere. Just for information D&A are the most expensive multiple opticians on the High Street - you will general pay at least twice as much for a pair of basic glasses. The best value is Specsavers by quite some distance. Tesco Opticians are very competitive too but without the choice. Hope this helps.

I've noticed this. I had a free eye test the other day and when I said I wasn't going to buy glasses they said that was fine and said goodbye, walking off with my prescription. I asked for it and they we're fine about it, looking at the prescription still in their hand as if they'd forgotten about it.

This has happened to me twice now with the free eye tests at D&A. I think it must be part of the training. I agree the prices in there are high, Specsavers are certainly the cheapest chain on the high street though I've have problems with the lenses breaking from there. Some of the independents can offer some good deals I've found.

I'm confused - there are loads of these postings for D&A free eye tests but with varying amounts of free nectar points - which one is correct?

    ta.

The 500 point one is only valid for people aged 19-64 in England and Wales. Offers of 250 and 100 points are for people who would already get free eye tests, without a voucher e.g. under 19 in full time education, over 65, residents of Scotland etc.

Does anyone know whether the prescription has to have the PD on it? I had a free test and they didn't put the PD on it, which then stopped me ordering glassed online.

They don't put the PD on the prescription because they don't want you to buy your glasses elsewhere. They are losing money if you don't purchase the specs from them.

If you ask them for the PD then I think they will make a charge for it (knowing you will probably go somewhere else to buy the specs).

You could get someone to measure it for you, or ask how much they would charge to measure the PD for you.

http://www.budgetspex.com/digital-dispensor.asp - I have used this website to measure my PD along with husband doing a manual measurement too; I've found the website to be very accurate but this depends on following the instructions to the T :-)
