Hi there, does anyone have any advice how I can keep a sponge birthday cake fresher for longer? I was thinking of slicing it up and freezing seperate slices in bags for lunches etc, but is it even possible to freeze cake?
Or any other ideas would be appreciated

yes, sponge freezes successfully - it doesn't take long to defrost & that's a good idea to slice ready for lunches. if it's iced, you might find any coloured icing runs so you might want to take that off though.0

I've successfully frozen cake with a buttercream filling and it has eaten like chilled puddings - cold and sticky.
I agree, slicing it is a good idea, as you could take it out of the freezer in the morning and use it to keep your sandwiches cool while it defrosts ready for lunchtime.

I often freeze cake (chocolate cake is fab - served warm from the microwave with a dollop of icecream, yum!)0

I often freeze individual portions of cake as it's handy to just warm in the microwave and serve with custard for a quick pud. Favourite being Gingerbread with a squirt of golden syrup on top before pouring on the custard!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Left over cake. You wouldn't have that problem if I was around :whistle:0

As everyone else says, its okay to freeze cake but put each slice into an individual bag and leave it in there to defrost otherwise the outside goes very dry. Same with bread slices.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I wrap it tightly in cling film before freezing the slices then put them in one freezer bag. you can take a portion out as needed and it doesnt take long to defrost, just a couple of hours!0
