Packet Mixes & Slow cookers?

Can I use packet mixes in my slowcooker? I bought some from Asda the other day (4 for £1) as I'm still working on my casserole making (Pasta sauce, bolognese, shepherds/cottage pie, pies no problem, but casseroles I struggle with
:rotfl: Maybe it's just fussyness though) and to save time & my sanity I was wondering if I can throw them in the slowcooker? Anyone?

Hiya!
I always use packet mixes and normally either get Colmans when on special or Lidls ones as there scrummy. I use chicken chausseur, sausage cassarole, lamb stew and chicken stew. It has all the flavours/herbs/spices etc for just a few pence and thickens the sauce too.
I normally bung any spuds that need using and any veg to pad it out also a tin of baked beans or any tinned beans when I get the 4 tins for £1 deal at Sainsburys.
We normally have a stew in the SC once a week and stick a few dumplings on top. If theres any left, I have for lunch next day or freeze...or give to the out-laws..lol. I usually also do a sausage cassarole in the SC weekly and have with baked spuds. Using a packet mix in the SC is fine!
I am sure anything you cook will be delicious hun.

I agree with PP, I use packet mixes and also mixes in jars. If using a packet mix, I put about 3/4 of a pint of water instead of the recommended 1/2 pint.
I use a beef casserole mix and throw in any veg I have, and baby potatoes and then serve with crusty breadYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
I too use packet mixes in my slow cooker, also small jars of sauce mix. Even better when on special offer in the shops I get a supply in.
As well as the "casserole" mixes, some of the Colmans (or similar) sauce mixes work OK too. I often use the Colmans Sweet & Sour sauce packet mix.
I find it better to use a little LESS water than it says on the packets of casserole mix. I am out at work all day and so the slow cooker is on for ages and the condensation which builds up inside the lid can make the contents too watery for my taste. But maybe that's a personal thing!0 -
Ye I make the packet up with LESS water too - for the same reason- if not I tend to need to add a little cornflour to thicken.
Guess it depends what it is though-my ASDA sausage casserole needed loosening up a bit the other day (it was on 11am-6.30pm though) so I added a tablespoon of boiled water- which did the job! I used fresh butchers sausages though so I think they actually absorbed some liquid- cheaper sausages tend to create more liquid- and fats.
Chilli is lovely in it and chicken tikka masala- that does get runny though so use less water or thicken to taste:A 17/10/07-Started Rosemary Conley :ATotal loss so far= 4 stone 7lbs!In the magazine Sept 08:T0 -
Just to agree with what the others have already said

You can also use family size dry soup mixes for the basis of a casserole (cream of mushroom is good), just halve the amount of water it says on the pack.If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0

If you buy any cheap casserole or sauce mixes you can use them in the slow cooker if you add a tablespoon or 2 of tomato pur!e it thickens up the sauce.x0

Just add 1-2 tablespoons of tomato pur!e that thickens up the cheaper sauces saves me a fortune as you can buy 4 for£1 in Asda & Morrison’s.0
