Indesit Fridge/Freezer

Hi all,
We bought a new Indesit fridge-freezer from Comet in August 2012. The fridge has gone quite rusty on the front door. I phoned up Indesit today (as Comet no longer exist) to complain and try to make a claim.
They told me that there is no cover or guarantee against this. Their guarantee for the 12 months is against parts failing.
Is there any kind of legislation that I can go to, or am I just on a losing argument here?
Thanks.

By going to the manufacturer, you are relying on their guarantee/warranty terms.
These terms tend to exclude cosmetic faults, like rust on doors.
If you paid by credit card, or some other form of credit, and the thing cost over £100, the credit provider is equally responsible with the seller for performance of the contract under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
If appropriate, read MSE's Section 75 Refunds article.0 -
Hi. Thanks for the reply and sorry it has taken so long to get back to you.
Unfortunately I didn't pay via credit card, it was put onto my wifes debit card. As you have said Indesit are saying 'cosmetic' faults are not covered, unless there is a mechanical defect causing the cosmetic fault, which I don't think there is.
Just seems really unfair to me that we paid a lot of money for something that has gone rusty inside of 6 months and there is nothing we can do about it.0 -
The only thing you can do is not buy Indesit again.
(Not a great comfort I know)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
