Thanks for all the good replies, I still find it difficult to comprehend, maybe I just don't envisage getting older! I guess I have to make some plans though.

What is the worst that could happen, not owning my own home, and living off a state pension of little over £100 a week? Would I care at that age? Would money matter? I don't know!

I suppose I am questioning things because a lot of books I have read lately are telling me to live in the now and the past and the future are just in the mind.

Think about what £100 per week gets you. Think heating, lighting, food, travel, housing costs etc.

Change your reading material to something a bit more grown up and sensible.

You never know what's round the corner. I had to retire very early because of medical issues and I'm glad of my pensions now.

How old are you now if you dont mind me asking?

When do you expect to retire?

If you retire at 65 then you could live 20-30 years after that - you really fancy doing that with no money? Sounds like a pretty miserable retirement to me. I'm not saying that money makes people happy, but it certainly gives them options.

Nothing wrong with living in the now. But you also need to plan for the future. People always seem to say 'i could get hit by a bus tomorrow' - whilst being true I think the odds are pretty well stacked that you wont be!
  • Get it started now, and then in a few months or years when you're a bit more au fait with it, perhaps look into it deeper, while smugly thinking you were glad you started it when you did. :)
