Call centre jobs, your views.

I haven't worked in a call centre as such but have done cold calling (sold double glazing) which I hated - mainly because I hated calling people who were probably having their dinner or had just got in from work etc and there is me interrupting thier day for something they have probably already got. luckily most people were quite nice and said thanks but no thanks (I also refused to be pushy which my supervisor didn't like). I think because I wasn't pushy most people I called realised I was just trying to earn a crust - some of the staff there were really pushy and followed the script to a tee with each knockback answer until they either got an earful or the person hung up on them - they then had the cheek to say 'can you believe that silly cow hung up on me?'
I have also worked on a helpdesk for Chubb Fire which I quite enjoyed (the people I worked with were great!) still got earful from customer but only because they were annoyed that their fire alarm was going off!!!!
I think most people do get their insurance and things online but they tend to want to speak with a human at some stage (normally when things go wrong!) people only tend to buy online as you get better discounts.0 -
I used to work in fraud for a well known bank. In the end we was not fighting fraud we was fighting usless pathetic unreachable targerts on calls. We had 6 people in a deparment that I used to call the useless statistics department. They used to produce usless stats and not a mention of how much we had saved the bank. Place made me really ill.0

i work for a call centre doing inbound stuff, before getting the job there i had seen some others and they were awful, but this one was a lot better. worst thing about it is the stats, there are stats for everything, and i mean everything. its very strict but the people are what makes it a decent job, and i know loads about my field now, eventually i want to train staff which means moving up a gradethings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

I worked in a call centre for a large company , when I started it was fab, but then we were taken over by venture capitalists , then it became a nightmare , more calls less time to take them in unrealistic targets, then they went for own final salary pension.... what more can I say...pay was very good , the hours I worked were great, & we had good holiday entitlement.
