Late returning Job acceptance....

Hi, DS1, 17 has just been offered a part time evening job at Morrisons. It will fit with his school work really well.
The letter offering the job arrived on a Friday.
He was so excited that he didn't read the info thoroughly.
He posted the acceptance slip 3 days later on the Monday, using the 2nd class return envelope.
However, we have just read through the info and it seems that the acceptance slip should have been received by Morrisons no later than the Monday- the day he posted it!!
He is due to start his training next Saturday. Should he phone HR or should he just turn up for the training?
They are employing about 120 people for a new store....

Just turn up, is my opinion. Even if he'd posted the letter as soon as he'd received it, there is no guarantee that they'd have received it by the Monday. I suggest he doesn't refer to his late posting at any point unless he's actually asked. And even if he IS asked, he could easily have been away for a day - I suggest he doesn't let the words 'I didn't read the letter thoroughly' or 'I posted it late' cross his lips. He posted it as soon as he could, and is reporting for duty as instructed

I agree with jobbingmusician. They will have a list of those expected and if he's not on it they will simply add him to the bottom and carry on.
I went to a test before interview thing and several people weren't on the list. We'd had to email our acceptance and they claimed that their emails must've gone astray. Who knows. But they were added to the list anyway.0 -
Thanks, I hope he can keep his nerve!
He was horrified when he re read the info!
All I could say was "Let this be a lesson to you" (really helpful)

Is there a number he can call? Or call head office and ask for the new store number?
I'm sure there will be no problem.0 -
I would just turn up. Even if he had posted it back the same day, by second class post, it is unlikely that it would have arrived by the Monday. My bet is that there will be a lot of late acceptances.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Just turn up or do a call to HR on Tuesday saying "I posted my acceptance, did you get it?" Don't say when you posted it mind - just say the post in your area can be a bit rubbish.0

I'm another for just turn up, but also take the letter on the registration day to say that he's got the job with him so that if he isn't on the list then they can check from what is on the letter.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

He could always phone HR to "check" that his letter was received in time, as he knows that post can sometimes take longer than expected... That way he looks to be taking initiative AND he doesn't have to worry that he'll be turned away on Saturday!0
