Feel sick at thought of debt co home visits!!

I still don't have enough for my BR fees and at this moment feel like i'll never have it :(

The majority of my debts have been passed to debt companies of which about 3 are now insisting on home visits. They say if I don't call them to arrange it they will call on a random day.

I'm worried sick as my parents know nothing of whats going on and my mum is at my home address on several occassions looking after my 2 year old son. The thought of her opening the door to one of these people is extremely worrying.

My phone rings between 20-30 times a day as does my mobile. I'm too scared to speak to anyone and haven't paid anything now for probably 4 months. My main problems are the pay day loans. I really can't see a light at the end of the tunnel

:(:(:(:(

Have you seen a debt counsellor or the C A B?

Firstly, CHANGE YOUR PHONE NUMBER. This was the first thing that the C A B told us, and get a new mobile: you can get one (PAYG) for a tenner. Then go through the C A B if you want, but you must speak to your creditors. Ignoring them - and your debts - isn't going to make them disappear; it's only going to make things worse.

If you speak to them, and offer even a small token amount - even if it's a FIFTH of what you should pay, they will more than likely accept it. Keep paying the lower (agreed) payments regularly, and you will have the bankruptcy fees in no time. It took us just 4 or 5 months to save the bankruptcy fees, when we reduced our outgoings to the creditors.

    Hi Jules,

Do go to the CAB, they will send out letters to all creditors telling them to communicate with them and not you and to stop calling you. My life changed hugely once the CAB took up the reigns, it gave me breathing space to think and plan what to do long term debt wise.

The OP doesn't need to waste a tenner getting a new mobile, just a new sim card on the same network (assuming her mobile is locked).

Sim cards can be ordered online free with all of the networks now. Take the old one out, pop the new one in and bingo... new number. If you can't order online then just pop in to the network's store and they'll happily give you one.

  • Thanks everyone. My other half, bless him, is desperately trying to get the money together this week so we can finally get this sorted. It will be such a relief for me.

If he doesn't manage that, do use one of the debt advice charities. Creditors are supposed to stop all chasing for a month once notified that one of those has contacted them to say you're getting help. That'll give you useful breathing space!
