bankruptcy and student loans/university etc

Hi
Does anyone know if you have been declared bankrupt (and hopefully discharged after 1 year) if you can apply for student loans/grants if going to University ??
I am going to be declaring myself bankrupt next month and I am hoping to go to University September 2014 (mature student)
Thanks

Doesn't matter with student loans. However don't expect to get any interest free overdrafts from banks.

yeah, as the previous post says - even whilst bankrupt I've had no issues applying for and getting a normal years student finance (during) although to keep things safe I did ring them and explain that I needed to tell creditors like them that I was bankrupt...
so I cannot picture any issues whatsoever even during BR, and certainly not once discharged, as far as obtaining a student finance from SFE/SLC means.

But yeah, I'll second Lokolo - even before bankruptcy, perhaps a year prior when I just had a very poor credit record, even then, going into branch to apply for a high street student account resulted in a declined application due to credit score...

but it's probably for the best to have those ridiculously over-generous sources of credit essentially off limits anyway, saves being in the usual boat of leaving uni with several thousand quids debt to an interest-free overdraft that's about to begin being interest accruing!

anyway, it sounds positive to have that prospect once you're hopefully out the other side and not bogged down with insolvency issues :) good luck
  • Yes student finance don't care about BR because BR doesn't write off student finance, you are always liable for it and they can and do chase you for it so it doesn't increase the risk for them at all in not getting their money back.
