I have the opportunity to purchase some shabby chic items, do you think this is as still popular as it was?

Depends where you plan on selling. Ebay is out as someone appears to have taken ownership of the term 'shabby chic' and many listings get pulled under the VERO scheme.

  • I think it's always a popular style, whatever it's called: vintage, distressed, American primitive, rustic, country, French [something - I've forgotten what], etc.

I didn't realise the term "shabby chic" was trademarked in any way. I've always thought of it as a general term for the above.

This page tells who (supposedly) owns the trademark

    http://socksandscrapbooks.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/shabby-chic.html

    She's got the website

    http://www.shabbychic.com/

Apparently she "founded the Shabby Chic brand in 1989"

That's interesting. Clearly she hasn't edited the Wiki yet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shabby_chic

I don't know where you plan on selling (shop/website) but in my hometown there's suddenly been an explosion of independent shops selling shabby chic items.

Not complaining as I LOVE this style and would decorate my whole house this way given the choice, but I think in my town at least, the market is pretty saturated.

Hi everyone, thank you for replying to my question. Timbear, I was thinking of selling on ebay, facebook and car boot sales. I have a couple of other places but no shops x

So we have ruled out ebay, facebook is awash with this stuff already so that leaves car boots- and depending on where you live the end prices may just be too low.

I was watching the Antique road trip on BBC1 yesterday (from my hard drive), one of the dealers bought a very nice large shabby chic glass fronted cabinet for £18 from an antique shop, struggled to sell at all at the first auction, people wouldn't even offer £5 for it. Sold eventually on the 2nd attempt at just over £20 so a loss when taking into account selling fees.

  • was thinking of selling everything for £1 each or thereabouts. Hopefully be able to sell the items and make a profit

The more I think about it, the less I am thinking of going ahead with it - put my money into something else? don't know what though
