I guess you mean the DMF (dual mass free wheel) which are a disaster area if fitted. Older diesels don't have them
One way to avoid this is to get a diesel with automatic gearbox0 -

Sorry to correct your correction, but its Dual Mass Flywheel.
With the vauxhall 1.9CDTI engine in particular, i've had people ring me and ask me 'has the flywheel been changed?' when i'm selling a car with that engine, in the same matter-of-fact way as they ask about the timing belt.
Its almost being seen as a serviceable item!!0 -
