Meter man also has panels and suggested I ask Scottish Power for a smart meter and then, as a low user, I might get paid for everything I export. Do you know if this is possible/true?
Hiya, glad to hear it's all going well.
If you are exporting more than 50%, then definitely worth asking about a smart meter (or an additional export meter). See if there are any cost implications, problems etc. Also check that your FIT contract can be revised as you probably signed to accept payments 'deemed at 50% of generation' (I would have thought it can be). Once based on actual export you will be paid more (or less) depending on metered export.
I probably export about 600kWh's pa unpaid (600*3.3p = £20pa) but most is on the higher old FIT so I can't complain, and I'd have to pay for an export meter to be fitted by an electrician. It would work out worth it in the long run, but hopefully I'll be 'smarted' before I'd reach the breakeven point.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Mart.
Thanks Martyn - I knew someone on here would put me right.
I might wait until I give up work (or rather it gives me up - 16 weeks!:T) and see how much of a light user I really am when I am here all day - I'm happy with the 50% payment anyway.0
