anyone on a DMP? what happens next?

Hello all

Just sent off my acceptance of a Debt Management Plan with CCCS (who have been fantastic), and written to all my creditors informing them , along with a temporary pro-rata payment whilst the DMP is set up, telling them CCCs will be in touch to arrange exact terms. My first DMp payment is due to go out 1st June, and the end of May's payments were the first payments I have ever missed on all my creditors, by cancelling all the direct debits.

For those who have taken the DMP route, what is likely to happen now? will I get loads of bad letters very shortly and phoen calls from my creditors until my first DMP payment goes out, or will it continue for longer? or...well I don't know, heard lots of horror stories and lots of not so bad stories...any advice or shared experiences will be helpful!!

By the way...lightbulb moment was three weeks ago...debt £47,000...if this all works out I am going to be so much happier!!!

thanks

M

    CCCS will compile all the information that you have sent to them. SOme of your creditors will bother some of you won't and will hopefully accept the offers. On the other hand, the phonecalls may start so be prepared. All you have to say is "Ive entered into a DMP with CCCS, here is my reference number, they are acting ob my behalf, please contact them" Don not engage with them, be firm, relay the above, and put the phone down (once you have said goodbye!) Welcome BTW. you are in safe hands. Lenny

    Hi

    welcome tornadobunches.

    I am much of the same boat as you. Recently set up DMP with Payplan. When i sent off letters with token payments i also said that could all correspondence be in writing. As of yet i have had letters but no nasty Phone calls. Probably will do but i am ready for them as i will follow basically what lennymfo advises. Just quote ref no and do not get embroiled in a conversation that i am not in control of.

    Hope all goes well and this site is excellent for any advice you need.

    Hi.

    Forgot to mention there is a DMP mutual support thread on here. Why not pop in and join the rest of us. It really is a good place for support or advice ,or even, have a good winge.

    I would put the link in but i am no Bill Gates when it comes to computers but it is easy enough to find.

    Hopefully see you there.

    Hi Tornadobunches,

    There are 'Office Of Fair Trading Guidelines' that creditors should adhere to when contacting you.

    The full set can be read at:http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=03_harassment

    Specific to your worries, see the bit in red...
    "Dealings with debtors are not to be deceitful and/or unfair."

    Examples include:

    * sending letters addressed to 'the occupier' or discussing the debt with someone without knowing if they are you;
    * refusing to deal with an adviser acting on your behalf;
    * not accepting reasonable offers or passing on payments you make;
    * refusing to freeze action if you dispute the debt.

    CCCS are are now your representative in these matters. So if you get any problems refer it to them. They must deal through CCCS now.

    I hope this helps a little.

    Hi all,
    I've been on a DMP for just over a year and it is great NOW!
    It will be hard going for a couple of months after is it stared with phone calls, letters etc but just do and Lenny has suggested above and you will be fine.
    DO NOT GIVE ANYONE ANY MORE MONEY! (MBNA are barstewards for calling up and asking for just a few pennies etc. but you must not do it!)
    Good luck, you will get all the help and support from this lot here, they are amazing!
