Statements and records advise

I am planning to go BR as soon as we have the money saved, but I keep reading this forum about the procedures etc and statements keep coming up!! I am scared now as I have hardly any documention as I shred it all. I dont keep statements, loan agreements or anything.
We live in a bad area at the moment and I have always worried that my details would be stolen if we got broken in to!!! I did keep them all at work which I thought was more secure but we got broken into and things was stolen. Obviously I informed everyone concerned ect.
Will I get in trouble because of this?

It's ok, it's the OR's job to seek information that you cannot supply and that they need.
I kept nothing, statement wise and nor did my OH, he didn't get into any trouble and infact, our OR just asked if we had any and when he said we didn't, that was the end of it.:: BCSC #71 but now discharged! ::0 -
Rest assured, the OR has the powers to require the banks etc to give them ALL the paperwork they need. They are used to this situation, and it will not cause a problem.

This is something that has concerned us too. The guidance seems to be that you must provide all the information that you reasonably can.
It is possible to get a full credit report from various credit reference agencies if you are concerned about having no details. With the credit report you will be able to see who is chasing you and (if you feel strong enough) contact them for written details (and written details only).
If you are unable to do that it would seem (from what I have read on here and from the advice I've gotten from CCCS, MyVesta and the CAB) that the key thing for you will be to collect up as much information as you have, letters from ballifs etc etc.
Have you taken advice from any professionals yet?0 -
Hey, dont worry... Sorry you have had to go through the worry already.
The OR will get what they want from the bank concerned. Dont worry at all.. you cant give what you dont have. Chill....0 -

Thank you all for the advise, I can stop worrying now!! I seriously have enough to deal with and I may be able to sleep tonight if OH does not snore! TEE HEE
I have spoken to 2 separate companies re BR but I have been trying to contact our local CAB for an appointment, but cannot get though for love nor money!
I really want to sit down with someone, as our situation is complex and I am unsure how to explain it on paper.
You see, my OH is a bricklayer, who works on a CIS4 card, so he flits from job to job and is often out of work for months at a time, hence the huge debt. I work full time and earn between £820- £935 a month depenant on bounses. I pay for all the bills etc and he covers the food, other outgoings and the debt when could afford to pay it.
When he is out of work, we have to rely on just my wages to see us though as he cannot claim any benefits due to the fact that his national insurance is paid yearly and so the benefit people say does not cover this! Something we was totally in the dark about until he tried to claim. His Mum will help us out by buying us food for us if we need it and we may have a little saved if his last job has been well paid.
I am so unsure how to put this on the BR forms. How do I explain that when he is not earning my wages only just cover the priorty debts leaving us with nothing or very little to survive on with out seeking further debt. His mum does not lend us money, she will just nip to Asda and buy us food so it is not a loan. I just dont want the OR to think that we will end up in this state again, when I know WE WILL NEVER HAVE DEBT AGAIN! I mean that from the bottom of my heart, it has caused us so much pain and heartbreak. I could not stomach it!0 -
It is hard, I know.
CCCS is very good for a chat as are the online MyVesta advisors.
I've found chatting to them and directly to folks who have been through this has helped put our minds at rest.
I'm sure there will be volunteers.0 -
Hi pink-girl...my OH is self-employed to I understand the difficulties of dealing with a constantly fluctuating income. When I was filling in the BR forms I gave an average figure for my OH's income. So if you can get a rough figure for your OH's annual earnings then average it out to get an approx monthly figure, that should be acceptable for your SoA.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Gud luk!0 -
Thanks again, OH has his tax return to do for last tax year, so this will give us a better understanding of his wages, I honestly have no clue! Some months it is nada others he may earn £500 a week. I just wish he had a basic wage each month to help us budget a little better, as you will understand, not knowing what is coming in week to week is so stressful.
Our papers arrived today and I had a scan through and got all worried. I know it is silly really but I do worry a lot. We have always struggled but the since last Nov things have been out of control. OH had over 3 months out of work and has only just gone back and now the job is coming to a close. He has been contacting other companies etc to try and find work before he finishes but so far nothing has come up.
I know this is a very daft question but last year when OH got his tax return, we was not having difficulties and blew it on a Nikon D50 and a printer for me, which was sold back in Feb to pay for the mortgage and food. The printer was less than £100 and we still have it. What will the OR say about this?
Also OH brought a £600 fish tank and a £100 external filter, we still have this as the fish are in it. Can they take it even though we have livestock in it! OH is very worried about this as his fish are his pride and joy/hobby.
Any help would be great. I am so happy I found this site, you guys are fab!0 -

Not daft, but be clear that the OR will not bother about a £100 printer..Also OH brought a £600 fish tank and a £100 external filter, we still have this as the fish are in it. Can they take it even though we have livestock in it! OH is very worried about this as his fish are his pride and joy/hobby.
Again, the OR are after 'Big fish' (excuse the joke) like cars, Plasma screen TV's etc worth £1000's. They will not be interested in this.
It is only high value, saleable at auction, items that they will care about.
Finally, as far as you uncertain financial position, just put it down on the forms as best you can. The OR, in your interview, will let you explain everything in full. By the very nature of the job, they must see thousands in a similar fix.
