    Hi all,

I am shortly to be setting up a DMP with Stepchange. just trying to change banks first before sending my paperwork back. I was just wondering should I contact my creditors (or let Stepchange deal with it) as up until now we have managed the minimum payments but I don't think I can do that anymore! What would you recommend as a token payment and do I just pay the token payment as normal i.e. when I would normally pay them the minimum payment? Also does anybody have a template letter explaining that I am entering into a DMP? I'm not that confident at writing letters so don't feel I can create one myself!!
    Thanks in advance!

Hi vix, I did reply on your other thread today, the template for the letter is on page 115.

    Hi Puzzcat

Thanks but that seems to be if they are already aware of the DMP which at present they are not. I was wondering if there was an alternative one which I could use??

Hi vix, yep that is not the right one! I did post the letters I sent on my diary but that was quite a long time ago now. I will have a hunt and in the meantime one of the oldies, meant in the nicest way will probably pop up!!

    How's about this..

First Letter I sent to all..

    Your address

    Account details

    Date

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to inform you that I am currently seeking advice and assistance regarding my current financial difficulties.

I am working with StepChange to set up a Debt Management Plan (DMP) – my reference number is *******. They will send you an offer of payment along with a copy of my budget and list of creditors.

I am unable to meet my normal monthly payments, would you please accept a token payment of £1 per month until StepChange contact you with my DMP details. I would appreciate if you could hold any action on the above account until this time.

I would ask that you please consider stopping or reducing interest and any other charges on my account to help me during my financial difficulties and to avoid increasing my debts any further.

I would please note all future communication should be in writing only.

I thank you in anticipation of your assistance and co-operation whilst I am going through this difficult time, and assure you thatI am doing everything I can to resolve my current financial situation in a responsible and sustainable manner.

    Yours faithfully

I sent cheques from my new basic bank account, others have sent postal orders or done payments online. I believe there is a lot of templates available on nedcab.
