Just been online looking at my new SC statement for January and my estimated debt free date in November next year. Now I know that is a long way off but I could be debt free next year! It just sounds so good to say I will be debt free next year!

    I know the feeling !

This time last year I was thinking 5 months to go, now having achieved DF status it feels weird but good !

Hi I haven't been on here or a few days, so just to update sent all details off to SC, they have agreed not to contact HSBC due to OH wages going in on Monday. OH tried to change bank accounts t work but they stuffed it up. So ow what can I do, he has a £300 overdraft with them plus a credit card due to finances at beginning the beginning of jan I only paid half of minimum payment. Are they likely to withdraw monies from his wages to pay off the minimum payment or are they likely to take all of his wages.
Also coop have stuffed up his new account as we advised that we didn't want them to switch wages and dd from his account but they are doing this anyway and this is due to be completed on the 30 jan. he gets paid on the 27. I'm really hoping that i can log onto Internet banking and withdraw any money available at midnight on Sunday. Failing this we've stuffed it for for the month, would they let us know in wring if they were using Funds or just take them.:(

Any info would be great, cheers Beans x

    Hi Beans,

Sorry I don't have the answers for you, but hope it all gets sorted soon. I would certainly try not to let the bank know about the impending dmp if possible until the wages are in the right account. Good luck with removing the money on sunday.

Hi Shoemaker and welcome to this thread,

The early stages of setting up the dmp are very stressful for most people and we all have 'what if' questions.. There are letter templates available for you to send if you do get lots of calls from creditors. The best method I found was to answer the phone and tell them I was entering a dmp with SC and gave them my ref number. I then didn't receive any calls. The letters do come thick and fast but it settles down after a month or 2.

Honestly, try not to worry and try to read back over some of this thread and the previous one's. All the questions you have and some you didn't know you wanted to ask will no doubt be on here.

Many experienced dmpers on here, not me i'm still a relative newbie (started nov 2013) who will be happy to help.

  • Hello and welcome to all the newbies who are just in the process of setting up their DMP's. Puzzcat has described it very well that those first couple of months can be a bit of a rollercoaster until everything settles down and the funds start filtering through.

I always found speaking to my many 'friends' that rang during those early days of debt wasn't too traumatic as once they were aware of the situation they didn't harass me that much but it always depends on personal choice. If you read back across the threads you will find no creditor treats people the same but try not too worry too much, you are doing your best to sort out your debts.

The change over of accounts is probably the worst bit as there is never a good time to make sure all is transferred over ok and can involve sitting up to make any transfers to the new account. A little tip I use when making the first transfer is to set up the FP facility and transfer a £1 over to check it is the right account, then as soon as the funds go in it is ready to be transferred out of the old account without the panic of setting it up on the actual day.

There is lots of good advice on here so don't be afraid to ask and good luck with those that are just starting.

Also congratulations to those that have recent successes and are reducing down that debt, it is always encouraging to everyone! Sorry if I have missed any important announcements and not commented.

    Hello again !

CCCS/StepChange have suspended my DMP and I am now paying creditors directly (again). It's all going well with standing orders but one of my creditors is the "Natwest" with whom I have outstanding debt for a loan and an account overdraft.
I have written to Natwest, asking them to provide their account details so that I can set up a standing order. They have written back to me and rather than provide their account details they have referred me to online facilities on their website where I can make the respective payment by card each month.

Now I am wondering whether that's a safe thing to do as I've always been told not to provide my card details, creditors would use that to take as much money as they can in an instant. Is that true or false or can I trust "Natwest" ?

You are thinking of a Continuous Payment Authority (CPA) where people authorise creditors to take payment each month. This is very common in pay day loans but gyms often use it too.

I think you would be fine paying via Natwest online account but being bl00dy minded so and so that I am, I would ask why they won't provide details for a standing order.

I can't wait til I am in your shoes :) SC DFD is May 2021 apparently, but my spreadsheet reckons I could do it in 2019. Just bringing it into this decade feels good lol
