Oh carp. Just opened the mail received yesterday (I was busy!) and OH has been done for speeding again:mad::mad:

Another fine to pay, and probably points as well seeing as he got done last year too and had to do the speed awareness course, where he told the trainer that he enjoyed driving fast:eek::eek:

    Divine justice. Sigh.........

Oooh no :( Unexpected bills are the worst! Naughty step for your OH ;)

I'm gutted today :( I ordered 3 months of contact lenses when we got DH's student finance payment at the beginning of the month. I accidently ordered + prescription instead of - and didn't realise until I had put a pair in and couldn't see a bean. I rang the company and they said that if I sent them back, they'd send me out complimentary contacts so I wouldn't be contactless (I couldn't return them normally as the box had been opened). I sent them back from our little PO over a week ago, didn't get proof of postage as I was rushing with the teeny terror and it was a prepay label, so I thought it would be ok. The company are claiming they haven't received them back, so I have no contact lenses and am £65 out of pocket which makes me feel sick. I've just ordered a single months worth to try and eke out until April when DH gets his next instalment (can't afford any more until then), which I will wear with my glasses (which are unfortunately wonky as my two year old grabbed them off my face). I'm feeling proper miserable! It's my own catalogue of errors, so there is nobody to blame apart from myself.
  • Hi debtdawg, hopefully this'll make you feel better, my waste of money is soooo much worse in terms of sheer stupity! Went to start the car on Saturday, no joy. Me & hubby tried various things but in the end gave up and got a friendly neighbour to tow us to local garage. Had to take a days holiday today to sort out which is annoying as well! Got a call from the garage this morning asking if we had a spare key as the computer was telling them the key wasn't recognised. Unfortunately hubby lost this on the beach a while ago (hey, maybe it isn't all my fault!) so no joy. Managed to get a new key cut having had it tested and found out that the transponder was broken....which supposedly never happens.....unless of course you remember that you had a little bit of a paddy on Friday night and threw said keys hard against a wall......eeeek! Moral of the story, throw something not so valuable in the future! Expensive lesson to learn!

  • Hello,

Just wanted to come back and update people on where we are now, as the last time i posted we were having some difficulties with Barclays and we received some great advice.

My husband and i both receieved final demands from Barclays before christmas (with a deadline of christmas day lol!), needless to say they were ignored on the advice of Payplan and shortly after christmas we received default notices for both of our loans.

This morning i received (unsure as to why husband hasnt got it though) a statement of the loan account stating that interest has been frozen at 0%! So Happy!

This means that we will have 0% on both Barclays loans and 3% on the Barclaycard! And our target date of March 2019 is acheiveable.

Plus we will have actually paid off one loan at that March 2019, 2 years before the actual contracted term of the loan. So debt free quicker!

Apart from the little hiccup at the beginning, Barclays, Barclaycard and Payplan have been very good.

I hope 2014 is a good year for everyone!

I don't think it was all your fault, maybe we could blame the post people or the contact lens company for not processing your return (just a little bit). & it seems like the ordering mistake was a very easy mistake to make. Btw Some opticians are very cooperative when it comes to cheap (free) glasses repairs, it's worth a try?

Let's hope the rest of the week brings better news for all DMPers

Murphy2011 that sounds like something I'd do in a paddy *shamefaced*. I plonked the laptop down a little too roughly on the table during a row with DH last year and broke the hard drive, losing all our unbacked up photos in the process.
Sazzie23, all might not be lost. I think I might be able to get some money towards basic new Specsavers glasses as part of the low income free prescription cards we have, so I will look into that. Hopefully then I will have an unwonky pair of glasses so it won't matter so much about the lack of contacts.
Dawnofwar, that's great news on the Barclays front!

  • I'm a long time lurker on the MSE boards checking out bargains and grabbits but I haven't spent much time on the debt-free posts becauseI've had my head buried in the sand.
This weekend I decided to complete the debt remedy tool on the Stepchange site because I was worrying myself sick about the state of my finances. In particular the fact that I am due to have nearly £2000 of payday loans taken out of my bank on 31st Jan. These have built upfrom an initial loan of £200 to cover car repairs which then meant I had to borrow more beforeeach payday to get through the month. I can't affordto make these payments and I haven't slept properly since last payday worrying about it.
Stepchange have suggested a DMP for total debts of £14013 with a monthly payment of £392 taking 3 years to clear. I completed the agreement pack and scanned and emailed it to Stepchange today. I alsophoned Natwest to ask them to cancel the CPAs due to go to the payday lenders on 31st Jan. the ladyon the phone was very helpful and said this should be OK but if the payments do go through i should phone them again and they will refund. This has left me a bit worried. It's too late to change my bank account with my payroll department and I dont have anotherbank account to use. Has anyone got experience of cancelling CPAs with Natwest and did it work? The payday lenders are. wonga, Lending Stream and Pounds to Pocket.
I have the afternoon off work tomorrow and intend to ring all mycreditors to advise them that i am speaking with Stepchange. I assume that Stepchange will want to speak woth me too.
I have a million questions but Im sure i will feel calmer when I. Have spoken to Stepchange tomorrow. Is there a chance that the DMP wont go through?
In the meantime is there anything else you lovely people would suggest? I did try a bit of ebaying recently but dont really have much to sell. We're council tenants so no house to sell. My car is a crappy old T-reg Focus Estate so cant sell that (at the moment its looking like it will cost me more in repairs than i paid for it).
    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome cookie :hello:

Have you cancelled the CPA with the PDLs as well as with NatWest? Try and do that if possible.

If Stepchange have given you a reference number, you can give this to all of your creditors and tell them Stepchange are authorised to deal uon your behalf. It generally gives you around 28 days grace to get everything set up.

If you have no debt with NatWest and you cancel all CPAs, SOs and DDs to debts, you will be fine. If you do have debt with NatWest, you could try the Co-Op bank or Barclays for a basic bank account. Just remember the number 1 rule - never bank where you have debt!

The start up of a DMP can be a real emotional roller coaster but once the first few weeks are over and it all settles down, you will never regret it. So please stick around for help, advice and support.
