  • So today I have had my second call from Payplan, very helpful and friendly. I have set up my direct debit so my 1st payment will be the middle of November.
He suggested I ring my creditors to advise I was dealing with payplan and give them my reference
I was mortified and felt sick at the thought, heart pounding the lot. I'm so glad I have now as they were all very helpful and friendly.
simply be were a bit funny as I had ordered something last month so said they would probebly reject the plan :( I said I didnt know I was going to have difficulty last month grrrr, will wait and see

So all you that are like me and feel sick at the thought of contacting creditors please don't be they are friendly and just take your reference.

The only one of my four creditors I had to quote my Payplan reference number to was HBOS every time they rang me (and they rang me a lot !), the other 3 did everything by post.

(It was about 8 years ago I did my budget with Payplan and we agreed a monthly repayment figure, it took me 90 months to clear my debts, and I have now been DF for 4 months - the feeling is amazing !).

    Sorry,

I have another DMP question. Stepchange have all my information and I have sent letters to all my creditors saying I am seeking help from StepChange, I'm going to make token payments this month to those that haven;t been paid already, is there anything else I should be doing, apart from not spending.

Thanks Everyone, good luck to us all starting out together, and thanks to all the old hands for being so patient and answering my probably obvious questions.

I assume you have sorted your bank account away from anyone you have debts with? Other than that I have just been getting used to the new card free budget!!! Good luck on your journey. X

  • Hi,

I have a DMP with Payplan who also advised me of the same as I banked with Barclays and also have a CC debt with Barclaycard. I opened a basic cash card account with Barclays and they have not offset the funds in that account with the outstanding debts I have with them.

There is always a chance that they will offset but in my particular case it hasn't happened :)

Thanks so much for that, you've put my mind at ease :) i read somewhere on here that someone did get money offset by Barclays but then refunded when reminded of the SC arrangement.

Thanks HH and sazzie, i will definitely get the money out on Friday just in case! My payroll deadline is 6/11 so i should have the new account details by then.

I got a big envelope from SC in the post today with copies of everything. The only thing that doesn't make sense is wherever it says what my previous monthly payments were, compared to the offers made - the amounts on there are much lower than what my minimum monthly payments were.

I also got a letter from Vanquis saying they have accepted the monthly offer for 12 months. Nothing about freezing interest or charges. Do i write to them to request this or will SC be dealing with this? I will call them when i get the chance.

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful and supportive! And good luck to all :)

    Hi Equilibrium

My understanding is that SC will only write to creditors they don't negotiate with them, so I would write to Vanquish about getting the interest frozen or at least reduced. I think there is some info on this further back in this thread but I don't have a link so maybe page back through if you have the time.

    Sound good so far though

I'm with Step Change and have been very pleased with the service they have provided and it is free. Don't go to a fee paying service. They will promise you the earth but in reality they won't be able to do a better job for you than the free providers.

Thanks for the support. Going through the painful process of my building my SOA

Hi all just had confirmation of a ppi refund from hsbc, will they offset this against my debts with them? Or will they send me the funds so that I can pay off a chunk to my dmp treating all creditors fairly? I could really do with some of the lump sum as my boiler is on its last legs and I'm worried if I do throw all the refund at the dmp then my boiler will give up completely and I will have nowhere to turn? Any advice? Thanks
