I have no idea if it is a continuous authority or not? Is the only way to tell by asking my bank, and can they stop it if it is?
I'm no expert on these types of payments so go and have a look at this link for more info. All I know is that a friend of mine cancelled her card and got a new one thinking that would stop them taking payment but they still took the money using the old card number.

My creditors are Halifax, Tesco and Next, I've opened another account with Nat West. Is this a safe account? They are linked to rbs who I've read were once linked to tesco but don't think they are any more.
Also, if i take my name from a joint account do i also need to change any direct debits to bill accounts just in my name or won't this matter?

According to this Natwest isn't linked to any other bank.
I'm not quite sure what you mean about the joint account. Can you clarify please?DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

We have had another creditor refuse the plan (BoS), but again stepchange said not to worry they would pay them as normal, though nationwide have now accepted for 2 of the 3 debts we have with them after initially refusing:cool:
Hi Keepingcalm,
We had a similar issue with NRAM, basically a few weeks ago i recived a letter saying they have accepted and then a week later i had a letter from Stepchange advising they have refused the offer !!, so i called them and they advised all was fine so i advised SC. Last week i had another letter from SC saying that NRAM refused the payment. I called NRAM again and they advised that they have not recived any payments or accepted the offer. To be fair the lady on the phone was very helpful and called around a few departments for me and it turns outs that they use 2 systems !!! and only one system has been updated !! and on the other system payment had been recived and the DMP accepted. Seems like a crazy way to handle payments etc etc.
I think somebody else posted before to keep doing what you are doing and keep paying as agreed by SC, they will eventually have to give in and accept the offer.LBM April 2013

Hi all,
Well done anatonic! A real inspiration! What a fantastic feeling, u must be on cloud 9!!! Hope ur celebrating!!
Our dmp is running smoothly, so far so good, keeping everything crossed and touching wood!!!
Welcome to the newbies just starting out, keep in there, follow advice from SC and things will settle down and fall into place. It takes a while for departments within departments at these credit companies to communicate with each other and update systems, but they do eventually!
I know its a pain because u just want it to happen overnight and you do feel a bit useless at times but i focused my energies on spreadsheets and cleaning the house! (It was never cleaner than at the start if my dmp!!)
Hope everyone else is doing okLBM Dec 2012 total debt 33,889 :eek:dmp started March 2013 DFD Dec 2024

Hello everyone
I have been watching this thread for a while and before I decided to open my eyes to our debts. We have made the step this week after much deliberation, stress and denial. Originally we were 48k in debt with loansm credit cards, store cards, over drafts (the usual suspects) but we are also lucky enough :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: to have a NRAM together mortgage, so the unsecured part of that is now added and so we owe 70k -:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:. We are starting a DMP with Stepchange who I have been really happy with. I am feeling very scared and worried, but also quite numb and so thinking 'bring on' the battles. We dont have anything other than to get ourselves sorted and working to a debt free future for us and our kiddies. If ok, I would love to join you all and support on your journeys. I am hoping this is the best decison we will ever make!0 -
Hello everyone, I just wanted to say hello to all the newbies and to welcome you. Wishing everyone good luck on their DMP journey. I see as ever some great answers to questions that have been posed.
Things do tend to settle down after a while but if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.
Just a little update to me, fridge freezer now working, was still covered under warranty so nothing to pay and my lovely mum gave me some money to replace the food, bless! Tried to say no but you know what mums are like!
Still waiting to hear from the lovely First Plus for my figures on the house, seems like they aren't that interested in wanting any money from me. Going to leave it until the end of the month and then another snotty letter will be winging it's way to them in complaint form as I would like to get everything wrapped up by the new year if I can.
Hope everything is all ok with the regulars as well.

Hi we are about to enter a DMP we have debts of £40,000, we haven't missed any payments, but we seem to robbing Peter to pay Paul!! Have had some really good advice of Step Change Debt Charity, we have to sign all forms etc and send the info back to them. It seems like a lifeline, but still very worried about entering a DMP!Bev:(0

hi All its been a while since i was on so a quick update.
Had a letter from Hxbos on my loan they are passing to an internal.external recoveries so hopefully that will stop the interest as i think its front loaded i have paid most of it off anyway. Hfx still applying reduced interest on cc so its not going down very quickly at all. O/d is progressing and other CC is still not having interest applied so bit of a mixed bag.
I am about to go for an interview for new job which could be quite exciting but it would be less money ( on paper) but less travel so shouldnt be constantly funding my expenses until i get them back. Just a bit worried about explaining why i have reduced my income. But my current job security doesnt look well so would rather go to something more secure.
Be lovely to get a redundancy package and then walk into another job but cant wait around for that.
anyway budget wise seem to be struggling a bit still a devout Aldi fan so that helps but i know i should do better.
Good to see such great progress and well done antonic to get to the goal have been watching your progress for a whileLBM Sept 2012

Hi Guys,
Has anyone had a solicitors letter arrive through the post?
I can see they are part of the lloyds group who i owe the debt to on a credit card.
Stepchange have said that it is probably because they have done a review and said they will send the info out to them to make them aware i am on a DMP.
Suppose i am looking for someone to put my mind at rest who has had experience of this!
Thanks in advance0
