I bought some aldi frozen chicken for that cat.. before you tut, it's an elderly cat that can't seem to tolerate ordinary cat food - she's ill. chicken is ok.
Anyway. I bought the frozen chicken breasts (with Added Water) that comes in a bag.
I cooked a breast and gave it her, I tried a piece out of curiosity.
it tasted salty. really salty to me. I added no salt of course. Examining the packet more I see the ingredients are more than chicken and water. Salt, dextrose, stabalisers.
I feel a bit angry to be honest. I'll probably do a disgruntled letter to aldi asking why they have to meddle with food and give people sh**.
I am usually a fan of aldi and will continue to buy my food there. My annoyance is that this is supposed to be an unadulterated basic food item that you can cook with.
Anyone else found this with frozen chicken breasts?

No but then I would never buy that sort of chicken !!
The Added Water bit on the label was a bit of a give away maybe.
You need to be careful feeding your cat with very salty chicken you may cause him / her to become very dehydrated & make things worse than they already are.
I find that things in the likes of Netto / Aldi / Lidl are either very good or very bad !!0 -
you could try defrosting and soaking in plain water see if that removes any of the salt.. it works with gammonLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Always read the ingredients. Most frozen chicken breasts need the added water or they will dry out during cooking. To get the water into the chicken they need to add salt and sugar. Next time just buy a whole chicken and cut it up yourself. Seal whatever cuts you aren't cooking straight away tightly and freeze it.:footie:

It did say on the bag what it contains so Lidl have done nothing wrong.
I bought a bag for the dog and although I did see what the chicken contained I thought they would be ok.
As you say, they are really salty, I just used them in curries etc for us and bought some other chicken from Asda for poochy.
I won't bother buying the cheaper Aldi one again, the more expensive one that they sell without water is ok though.0 -
and the fresh chicken from Aldi is lovely! I rarely buy chicken breasts as OH prefers thigh meat and I buy a pack of fresh and freeze them myself. but, they do sell chicken breast in the chiller cabinet - and they do look rather substantial for the money.0

Aldi do a 1.2kg (I think, definitely over 1kg anyway) pack of chicken drumsticks and thighs ready to cook for £2.99. I know you're paying for the bone too, but works out much cheaper than buying the bags of frozen chicken breasts which are closer to £5 from what I recall.0

When my local Lidl have the fresh chicken thighs on special offer they always overstock so I bide my time and end up with about 10 packs with 30% off the already reduced price which go straight in the freezer at around £1.40-£1.50 a kilo. Happy days !0

I used to buy my cat chicken too. I'd cook a whole one in the slow cooker until it was falling off the bone and then freeze the meat and stock in yoghurt pots. It was the only way we could get his medicine down him-he'd eat round it if we added it to ordinary cat food.0

I have started buying these, you get about 8 decent sized drumsticks or thighs in a bag and they are £1.69 (I bought some on Friday).
I wrap a couple of rashers of bacon around each thigh (thawed), put in a baking dish and cook in the oven for about 15 mins at 190 to 200 deg, take out and add a jar of sauce (whatever takes your fancy, spag bol type, sweet and sour, etc etc) then cook for another 15 to 20 mins.
They seem to swell up during cooking and are a great cheap quick meal, added to a bed of rice.0 -
I can recommend the Aldi free range whole chicken - £4.99. It does 4 of us for a roast, a curry/pasta dish and sandwiches and tastes lovely. If you're not hungry, food isn't the answer!0
