reading this post with interest a lot of interest,i not a earth mother or vegetarian but i never have or will buy readymeals reading through all the posts i see why, my mum and dad came from a very very poor part of town central Belfast so no fields to grow anything, so i was never introduced to ready meals as they were too expensive IN THE BEGINNING when they came out. Now you can get readymeals and they cost less than 1 ingredient in the whole meal if youwere tomake it yourself. my mum bought day to day as did her mum and they managed to feed us all, i only rem good sausages from the butchers and massive turnips the size of your head ,not these onion size turnips they sell nowadays. as my mum and dad started to make a few bob and moved away ,bought house etc... my mum used her garden for fruit and veg growing so monkey see monkey do ...im the monkey...i grow everything i can. I have tasted a few bites of readymeals and i hate them they never taste like the real thing. Maybe im spoilt as i have been fortunate enough to have the real thing made all my life what im trying to say is we never had volumes of food on the plate but it was always the proper meat/etc not ready made and always filled up with bread and butter. my brother bought a bag of value mince a while back just to see what way it turned out................dog got it full of gristle and whitestuff,so i prefer to use the real stuff dearer to buy but as you saying its from the butcher so no "things" in it, just have it with big salads and more veg...easy gotten in ys fridge and go seasonal. sorry i rambled on trying to do this while having a 3 way converation with oh and son on this subject. My son aged 9 has only ever had a frozen pizza as a readymeal and i hope thats the way it stays till he can see whats in these readymeals........was running around shouting giddy up cos heseen a packet of burgers in tescos hope he keeps this horse scare in his mind for when he older.

Another thought on this....The supermarkets move with demand right? So if we stop buying ready meals and cook from scratch more the supermarkets will reduce the proportion of the store dedicated to ready meals/increase the quality of the meals and replace this space with a wider range of base ingredients and if they all move in this direction the costs may go down through offers/bulk buying power of the supermarket.

    Just a thought.
