    Hi Florenceem,

Having read up about it, personally I'm not keen.

There is a thread discussing it here:

    Vietnamese River Cobbler.

I'll add this thread to that one later.

I have two basa fillets in batter in the freezer - from a fancy 'gourmet' range in Waitrose - so I'll let you know the verdict when we've had them!

Ive had the ones from Aldi. I liked them, more flavour than cod and a texture rather more like fresh tuna. OH didnt like them! so its personal taste really!

If you have the plain ones - I did think they would make a lovely fish pie - the chunks would stay together nicely!

I haven't bought any Basa fish yet - just thought the price was good for fish pie or fish cakes. I have seen a blog where this fish was used for breaded goujons not deep fried but cooked in the oven..

Firm meaty white fish, not much flavour on its own, good in strongly flavoured sauces. I used to put it in curry as it held together well. Can't get it where I live now, the shop hasn't got any.

I found it tasted of nothing, I bought it accidentally thinking I had a good deal on seabass.. I won't buy it again.

I am sitting here wondering why I thought it had more flavour than cod! LOL - was my portion special in some way?

My mother buys a lot of it, she thinks its lovely and meaty, but generally the fish she buys is whiting, trout fillets or salmon so goodness knows! I did put some in a pie once, but couldn't comment on the flavour as it had smoked haddock, prawns etc in it too!
