YouTube? 'The Tragedy of the Commons' was the title of a famous-ish article written by an ecologist in the 1960s. What actually-existing (or actually-existed) commons have to do with pensions is unclear however. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough though. E.g., the New Forest (*) as a metaphor for contracting out of the State Second Pension: 'get too close to the pony and it will kick you' as a poetic way of saying 'get too close to the upper accural point, and it will kick you (out of NI relief)'...?

The commons is the pension scheme. That is probably why it became a Ponzi in the first place. It didn't start off as one. The commons is almost everything about the government. The government is very good at deferring expenses to the next generation unborn children who have not got the power to vote. I guess we don't love our children enough.
  • trying to pin labels - "ponzi scheme", "tragedy of the commons" - on the state pension is a waste of time. even if they were accurate, it would still be a waste of time. you might just as well say: "we're all doomed!" - what does it achieve?

there's also been a lot of discussion in this thread about how practical, fair, or politically motivated, the new pension proposals are, about who will benefit or lose, about how they could be improved, etc. this is all much more constructive.

I am not pleased with your comment :( Why is it that some people believe that is is an acceptable thing to intentionally offend others. I consider this much worse then being treated harshly because at least that would be considered subjective.

Sometime you need to think before intentionally offending people. It is not something that people do by mistake or with a good mind. Do you know if you are attacking young children. Would you treat young children this way. Guess it isn't important so long as a bully get to show his toughness.

If you don't like what I wrote explain so, and give some positive advice. I am here to look for a safer and fair way to invent for the future and become financially literate.
  • toomsie I don't think this is going to be a receptive forum for conspiracy theories. Most people on here are pre-retirees looking for advice & am not exactly keen on radical social changes.. so perhaps you should try elsewhere.

I am a fan of Martin Lewis since I was a kid. His advice is straight forward and easy to follow. So I did not see a reason to discuss what I see. On my first job , it is time to think about pensions and retirement funds. Martin Lewis was on TV, his advice was a little at odds my knowledge of pension. After looking at his blog it appears that he sees things the same way. The state of pensions appears to not be a conspiracy. What I thought was sensible and a wise choice not clear by any means. I don’t see myself as a radical. What I want is to make a healthy choice for the future.

It is great you are a fan. So don't sully his forums with your conspiracy theory nut job talk.

Want to talk about savings? Investing? Personal or work pensions (not State pension ponzi schemes) this is the place.

You offend us with all this conspiracy stuff.

This govt (and previous ones) cant agree on ANYTHING. How could they agree to keep quiet on a conspiracy.

If they did, one would leave their wife for another woman and the wife would tell all.
