Courier Jobs

  • Yes, do not do it! It's £1000 a year to cover yourself insurance wise, you have the issue of wear and tear on your car and tyres, and of course fuel..70p a parcel basically covers this and leaves you with nothing as a wage. Took me all of a day to realise I didn't want to do this job after I'd done 11 drops which took nearly 2 hours and made all of £10.70 (£7.70 plus they give you £3 for picking up the parcels from the depot) I covered 30 miles in total which is about £5 in juice, so that left me with £5.70. Even before you deduct insurance and wear and tear, that's only £2.85 an hour, and I suspect after insurance and wear and tear deductions, it might actually cost you money to do this job!!! What a bunch of robbing ba5tards!!

Claimes you can earn £ 400 - £ 600 per month ! ( their ex. mark) thought they'd made a misprint and it was per week especially as you are providing your own vehicle ins etc etc

Glad I've read these posts .....

BTW I was talking to another national delivery driver and they are laying people off - maybe they will be doing the same as DHL and then getting self employed drivers in....

    Hmmmmm

I had an interview scheduled with DHL a couple of weeks ago. I worked out what I would actually be earning on 65p per parcel - and cancelled the interview!

Does anyone have any experience of courier work? I've got an 18 month old and 11 week old and once my maternity leave is over I'm only going to be able to earn £30/week max in my current job so i need to find something else and a courier seems to be a sensible idea but was looking to see if anyone knows more details about it. I know there's Redcats and Parcelnet, are there any others and how much am I likely to earn etc?? Any info would be very gratefully received!!
It is not as easy as people say. If yu have a small van, peugeot partner, you will have to pay about £165 a month for your insurance and if you contract to other companies, they will pay you about .65p per mile, which is good. Your fuel bill will be on average about £115 per week and you will get paid 30 days from each invoice. On top you need to be VAT registered to claim back all the VAT on your fuel and any other purchases. If you work for a company, you will get about £6.50 per hour and will have to work very long hours to make any real money. Best advise is have a go, any problems just ask me.
